I was at a VLCD and am slowly working my way up with my first goal being 1200 calories. When I'm doing my meal planning, I keep finding that I'm going over on my macros. I have them set to 40/30/30. Is this something to be concerned with or is going over macros an issue. I'm trying so hard to get all my calories yet not be over in macros and I can't seem to find balance.

By the time I'm done with today's food, I'm up to 1170 for calories (only 30 from my goal) and all my macros are fine except I'm -74 on carbs. Is that a large amount over?0

Yes, macros do matter, but if you are just trying to work your way up to eating more, then I wouldnt bee too concerned about going over on them for the time being. However it is something to pay attention to. You want your carbs to be below your 40% essentially. If you meal plan, then concentrate each meal on getting in the protein first, then work on adding in carbs. It is a bit of a shift, and trying to figure out what to eat that can fill you up and get in the protein but it can be done. Things like more meat, cheese, nuts, seeds are all things that can help the protein boost, but dont have many carbs to worry about.
In the beginning, as long as your carbs are simple carbs and not complex, then I wouldnt worry too much and concentrate on the cals.. Once you are comfortable eating at that level, then start boosting your cals up to where they really need to be and then work on macros..0 -
If you're using the app on an ipad or ipad there is an *awesome* pie chart that you can check throughout the day (or plan in advance) so you can see the % of your macros. Go to "home", then "daily", then the pie chart picture in top right corner.
71 carbs over seems like a lot...0 -
Fruits, vegetables are consider simple carb..... So if you do eat a lot of them and go over, it's fine. But if you are over due to eating too much sugar products, then you do want to cut down a bit.0

Thanks again for the help. I'm sure all of this meal planning will become easier with practice and experimenting.0
