Good morning!
Just starting a thread to see where everyone is in regards to their off-season training. Status updates, 5k PRs, new toys...give us what you have!
I joined the Endurance Nation team in October and so far this winter I have taken 3 mins off my 5k time (19:35), have increased my average cycling 40k speed to 23.3 mph and have spent 0 hours in the pool! I also purchased a two new bikes (Jamis Icon Elite- road bike and a Jamis Sputnik- Single-speed fun bike) and a Garmin 910XT HR Monitor.
I am registered for only one race at the moment, Ironman Louisville, and will most likely run Ironman Kansas 70.3 in June. I had plans to do Ironman Texas 70.3 but it looks like a vacation with the girlfriend that is non-tri related is going to happen in April.
I just switched over into a training plan that has now brought swimming back into my sessions so it should be interesting getting back into swim shape. I will keep you posted on how it goes/how many times the lifeguards have to pull me out.
What have you been up to?

Off season has been great. I ran my first stand alone 5k since I’ve become serious about endurance training. I had fairly low expectations as I’ve been in base mode since Oilman in November, but I cranked out just a 21 and change time which was good for 2nd in my age group. I also have my first ever half marathon on Sunday that doesn’t follow 56 miles of biking. Ha. I also joined the DOTS which is a local racing team, earned my USA Cycling Level 3 Coaching License, and became co-owner/coach of a new endurance sports coaching company.
Toy wise I got a Garmin Edge 500 for Christmas and my Garmin Forerunner 305 went kaput so I picked up a Timex Global Trainer.
Right now I’m signed up for Texas 70.3 in April and Ironman Texas in May. I’ll probably do Sylvan Beach (sprint) in June due to my obligations with Tri on the Run as our team’s lead sponsor. Other than that I’ll probably wait to see how my body bounces back after IMTX to decide the rest of my season.0 -
Officially signed up for the Oliver Half Iron and the Challenge Penticton ( formerly Ironman Canada ) races.
I got a new 310xt to replace my dying 305.
Waiting for new attire from a local bike shop that has me racing with/for them as well now.
Started swimming lessons. Went from getting frustrated at not being able to get past 2:00/100m but being able to cover 3 km to barely doing 2 laps without needing a break due to form changes, to doing a 1500m time trial in 24:49 a 1:39 pace in just a couple months!!
Was cleared to run in October ( I was in an accident 2 years prior to that putting my triathlon training on hold, finally cleared to run, busted collarbone and femur, hip surgery, pics in my profile ) Gotten down to about 22 mins for a 5k, and looking at breaking the 2 hour half marathon mark here pretty darn quick.0
