Ugh, I need to stay out of the main forums

The whole Calories In / Calories out argument (myth) is way out of control with the conventional wisdom people.

Do they not understand that our bodies are not simplistic machines like a car engine or a computer?

There are so many things to take in account, sleep, stress, quality of food eaten, hormones, etc........

My own endocrinologist (who specializes in Metabolic disorders) has stated that calories in / calories out does not apply.

This is the reason why a controlled carb lifestyle does have a metabolic advantage over those eating in "moderation".

The reason being is because fat when it is burned produces more heat, therefore burning more - that creates the advanatage. I know this is a simplistic explanation, but I didn't want to get into it with all the big sciencey words and such.

For now, I will be hiding in the caves of my groups and home page.

Yes! I see so many misguided people on there. They are looking for help. Some I private message, but rarely do I respond to them on the main forums. People are vicious on there!

it's so hard to watch so many practically living on grains and sugar and NO fat wondering why they're constantly hungry and feel awful :(

I want to shake them and say "why on earth would you think that makes sense? Use logic!"

I know what you all mean. I try and educate too many people that just don't want to be educated.

I really need to stop and just help the people that actually come to me asking for help.

I cannot be bothered trying to educate people anymore, they just throw it back in my face. People call me crazy and that I am 'diet' obsessed.... They are the crazy ones.

Agreed - even the people who ask how you did it ( lost weight) don't really want to actually find out they can't eat rubbish and lose the weight!
Tell them it's genetic and they will be happy.

Yes, you ladies are absolutely correct.

I am going to Sesame Street Live with my sister and nephews tonight. We are going to eat at Steak and Shake....I know I am going to get the questions when I order my bunless burger and salad to eat..

Why aren't you eating bread? I know that doesn't taste right without the bread.......(when it actually tastes better without the bread).

I usually just say what my personal experience has been. That's all I can really speak to, I think. Sometimes I'll get a private message from someone asking further questions, but a lot of the time whatever I've said falls on deaf ears. That's ok....It's not my mission to enlighten or convert the masses.

On another weight loss site that shall remain nameless, I had a bunch of supposedly well intentioned and much better educated strangers (LOL) insisting that the only weight I was actually losing was "water weight" and that I was about five seconds away from running out and scarfing every cake and french fry I could get my hands on because I was "depriving myself" of sugar and carbs. Well, I've lost about 50 lbs of "water" since I started in July 2012, and I haven't felt the need to binge on cake and fries, or anything else for that matter. Funny, that. In the meanwhile, these concerned citizens have had repeated struggles with cravings and CARB BINGES, have not consistently lost weight, have felt like crap, wonder out loud why they can't sleep well, why they are having mood swings and hunger pangs, etc. :glasses:

I left that site and started being active here because the anti-low carb sentiment was out of control. MFP seems to struggle with this kind of drama in the main forums as well, but it's better here because you don't have supposed "experts" who are moderators censoring entire conversations, telling you how wrong you are despite all evidence pointing to the contrary, and limiting what you can and cannot talk about in the forums or on your personal blog. I found the poor attitude of the so-called "experts" on that other site trickled down to the members who also decided they too were experts, and they would cluck their tongues at anyone who wasn't following the standard "balanced" 1200 calorie crap diet that the site suggests. The members felt entitled and even empowered to behave that way because they had the "experts" backing them up.

Anyway, I think if a person really wants to know about paleo, primal, low carb, motorcycle repair, whatever, they should do what most of us did--GET A BOOK AND READ IT. Instead of asking internet forums where you are bound to get a whole bunch of conflicting info, just start looking at books and such. I think the best way to follow any sort of program is to read the book and actually follow it to the letter, at least for a few months, so you can see if it actually works for you, and know how it works (or doesn't). So if people ask me how to go about eating in a certain way, I recommend they select a book (I usually name a few titles/authors) and read the whole thing, carefully, and then do it.
