Ok, looking for some advice. Been Hypo since age 14. Im alwaysstruggling with my dosage. On synthroid. ( generic doesnt work for me.. They are constantly changing my dosage. It is eaither too low or too high. Mid july my TSH went up to 0.799. Felt like I had the flu. Doc sais ( while waiting for test results) better get tested for Lymes at your GP. Your symptoms dont seem to mimich your thyroid. OK. blood comes back. raises med to 188mcg. Oct...Blood work comes back TSH below 1. lowers my med to .186mcg .this requires me to take 188mcg mon-fri. and (2 ) .88mcg on Sat and sun.
Now to Jan. Asked the receptions to add Free T3 to my blood work. here are the results:
TSH- 0.018 ( 0.400-4.000
Free T4 -1.46 ( .89-1.76)
Free T3- 4.0 ( 1.8- 4.2 )
Now she wants me to take 175mcg Mon-fri and 1- 200mcg on sat and sun to come to a total of 182 mcg
this roller coaster is constant. Im getting tired!! any thoughts as to what to do ?
I am Lacto -Ovo Vegetarian
I work out 7 days a week and make sure I need 1200 calories after eating back my exercise points. No bread or dairy ( other than eggs , no yolk.

I was going to ask the same thing - how do you feel? Because honestly, your levels look great on that last dose. It sounds like they're trying to adjust your meds just on TSH which isn't very helpful, especially since once you're already on meds it breaks the feedback loop between your thyroid blood levels and your pituitary (source of TSH).
Do you have any hypo symptoms, like cold sensitivity, fatigue, joint aches and pains, depression, brain fog...?
A few thoughts:
1. Have they tested your Reverse T3? Your free T4 is creeping up a bit, but not too bad - but if it gets too high for you your body could start making RT3, which blocks the receptors for T3.
2. Have you had your Vit D levels tested? Vit D is required for T3 to act on your cells, so if you're deficient you can feel hypo. Possibly also need to test zinc levels.
3. Honestly...I'm wondering if you're eating enough. I don't know your stats, but netting 1200 often isn't enough food. A lot of people find themselves stalled, then bump up their food even 200-300 cals/day and end up losing. Is there a specific reason you're avoiding egg yolks?0 -
Thanks for the response. I am feeling pretty good. the only symptom I have is sweaty underarms when im actually cold..Strange feeling. Im going to have my reg doc test my vit d b12 etc. I hate using the thyrpid issue when weightloss is nill. Im working out 7 days a week, eating well and Im not losing inches or weight. I dont eat after 6pm at night. Im getting frustrated and would jsut like to see my hard work pay off. I dont eat yolks becaue I dont like the look of them. I will occasionally put on in with my 5 egg whites for breakfast. Take a look at my diary. I would appreciate any advice0

How long have you been working out and following your eating plan?
I had to ease into my habits and it's taken me a couple years to lose 20lbs. It was very slow going, but it worked. It helps to stay consistent.0 -
