salt cravings?

I've been slowly leaning into a vegetarian and raw food diet over the past 3 months. The last month I've been getting to probably about 50-70% raw and vegetable diet. I'm still eating meat maybe once a week and cook (or lightly steam) at dinner.
Lately it seems like I can't get enough salt. I put it on everything--even in my green juices which before didn't seem to need it. Is this cause for any concern? I keep hearing salt is NOT good--to try to cut it out like sugar. Any advice or insight about this? Should I allow this or try to break the habit?

Salt in and of itself is not bad. In fact it's even present in raw plants. It's an electrolyte. The problem with sodium is that it's in so many processed foods as a taste additive and to extend shelf life and to preserve food. So the less you eat processed food, the less sodium you'll eat but you will still ingest some.
Having said all that, yes, I do get salt cravings sometimes. Usually in the evening. I just need to taste a little of it to get by. Sprinkling some on hummus and having it with veggies can help. I know that's not completely raw and I'm not 100% raw vegan. I'm as raw as I can get is the best way to put it.0 -
thanks fitguy-- it's amazing that cutting out processed food makes such a difference....I'm also probably going to get some sea salt next time I need salt since I"m making more things at home.0

I cut out added salt a long time ago. I feel so much better. Personally I don't think salt is something we should eat. Salt naturally in plants is great. If your craving salt it usually means you need more greens in your diet. I not a big fan of juicing but occasionally I will juice a little bit of celery juice with my other juices and it helps.0
