Squatting and Deadlifting

I was wondering if anybody has made any modifications to the squat and deadlift aspect of strong lifts. I was thinking about only squatting on one of the workouts instead of two and increasing deadlift to 5x5. Either that or keep squats in both workouts and still increase deadlift. I guess I just enjoy deadlifting.

Any thoughts?

I do 3x5 for my deadlifts. I enjoy them too much to only do 5 reps.

Squat is the most important exerscize. Thats why its done every workout. Where are you weight wise? Once you're doing higher weights on deadlift you'll be doing a lot more than 1x5 to warm up. I'm at just 230, but I'm doing 10 reps @ 135, 5@185, 5@205, 3@220 and then 5 reps on my work weight. So assuming I reach my 5 reps on my work weight I will have done 28 total.

The most I've done for deadlift is 160 3x10. I was planning on starting at 170 for my set of 5. I won't make any modifications right now.

As far as doing way more than 5 reps by the time you get up to the work weight, the same could be said about any of the lifts. I wonder why deadlift is different.

YES! You should be warming up, starting with the empty bar. On my squat right now (190) I'll do 10 reps empty, 5 reps@95, 5@135. 5@155, 3@185, rest 5 min and THEN try to do my 5X5 @ 190. Same with OP, and Bench. I don't do any other cardio warmup or stretching.

You should really start to feel challenged soon...

Wow , that's a lot of sets. How do you determine how many warm up steps and where to add them?

I understand all that. I always warm up, and I am feeling challenged now. I didn't mean to imply that I just jump right into it.

Wow....that 28 rep warmup is a workout in itself. Isn't the 5min rest a little excessive? Personally, I'd stiffen up a bit with that much of a break....but then again I'm 52yo. For a squat warmup I do 5 fast and 5 slow ones with the empty bar to get the joints lubed, then 5 with about 1/2 my working weight and that's it until I'm over 225lbs, then I'll add in another 2-3 reps at 175 or so. The squats will warm up the entire body and for the other exercises I'll just do a light set of 5 to groove the movement. I do a few minutes of cardio and ballistic stretching until I work up a small sweat before any of this, which is what most of the experts I respect recommend.
