I joined MFP in April of 2011 (despite what my date says...that was just a name change) and ultimately lost nearly 20 lbs.

Since then, I've gained back nearly 10. WTF? (read that as "what the f**k" or "what the fatty", whichever your prefer).

I've never been obese, just fell into the getting older-getting slower-hypothyroid-etc. category...the category where every year you gain a little more, then a little more, until one day, you look at your body and wonder what the heck happened to you. Where's my tone? Who's flabby belly is this? What in God's name is happening to my thighs? The category when buying loose shirts to hide your muffin top is the norm. The category where you just don't feel good about the way you look...when displeasure about your outside affects your inside. I'm sure there are people that are perfectly confident no matter their size (i.e. larger sizes) but straight up, I'm not one of them. I don't like being squishy...squishy doesn't feed my confidence. Fatty likes eating my confidence as much as I like eating an entire bag of potato chips in one sitting.

You don't have to start off big to be unhappy about what weight gain, muscle loss, and general squishy-ness does to your body.

I thought I had just about killed off Fatty...so I got sorta lazy over the past many months. Periodic tracking. Periodic exercise. I did score a huge WIN in the form of quitting smoking a few months back so that's a plus. I registered for a half marathon this coming May (my first after doing a fair number of 5k's last year) and I need to commit to training for it, or else I won't be able to perform. I've been droning on about how I'm going to start the New Rules of Lifting for Women program and I have started, a number of times - but I've not committed.

See what Fatty does to you? You can kill fatty off, but if you're not careful, he starts creeping back. At first you don't notice...because he's so darn sneaky and slow. By the time you finally catch on, he's already got a pretty decent grasp on ya - decent enough to where you say "to hell with it, I'm gonna eat ALL the donuts" rather than "it's time for my workout!". Fatty loves this, you can almost hear his victory cries! Fatty doesn't just attack your body either, he gets in your mind. Makes ya lazy...gives you ideas on why you can't work out "today" and you'll just make up for it "tomorrow". Fatty knows he'll have an even stronger hold on you "tomorrow" than he does "today"! It's all part of his evil plan.

I killed Smoky - now I gotta put the smack down on Fatty!

You might be like me...a little scattered, a little unfocused. Let's individually and collectively get our minds where we know we want them to be, plan our goals and make them happen...no. matter. WHAT!

Here's to success ~

Way to go Sherri - I think in so many ways what you wrote describes me as well except I found the Obese end of things and Killing off Fatty may very well do me in but I am here to go for it.

Congrats on the smoking thing. My quit day is in 4 weeks (Mar 1st) when I turn 40. I decided this year is all about my health. Started back to MFP on 1/1, establish my healthy eating habits and exercise habits and then attack Smokey on my birthday. Trying to turn the fact that I am turning 40 into a positive (while everything else seems a negative)

    Thank you for the inspiration

Thanks for posting this Sherri. I was doing so well with my weight loss until I quit smoking on 6/22/12. I loss/gained a few pounds over the last 7 months, but basically weight loss stalled. But I am smoke-free...and that is HUGE. So I am here to kick "fatty" to the curb!

    Congrats on killing Smokey!

Loving the killing the smokey!! Great job to you! Ive never smoked, but am in the category of the squishy that sneaked upon me as I aged... I don't look terrible, but am definitely hiding the muffin top-- I want to be firm again-- together we can do this!

I quit smoking in November. I am so glad I did it before I started exercising and eating better. I think it helped altho I seem to get sick easier since I stopped smoking. Is that weird?

I was on MFP for a while (under different names) and kicked *kitten*! lost nearly 80lbs and then lost my way.

I CANNOT go over 200lbs again so it is time to kill the fatty once and FOR GOOD!! :explode:

Ready to be bikini ready by June!
