Hello everyone i wanted to get some advise on doing the 30DS, i am going to start tomorrow and pretty much the only time i have to do this is if i get up 30mins earlier in the mornings and my question is should i try to eat a small something before doing the workout or would it be ok to wait till after. It probably sounds crazy to ask such a question but my usuall exercise is to walk after i drop off my daughter at school and before i go to work, so any advise would be helpful

Thanks in advance.

I always thought it better to eat after a workout but I was reading some tips on the Jillian Michaels app and she said that's a myth it doesn't really matter when you eat. It's a personal preference.

Many folks have different feelings about this... its all about what works for your body. If you do this workout and find that you get dizzy or that you don't have a ton of energy during/after the workout, eat 30 minutes before. If the opposite, don't eat.

For me, I have tried not eating (because of the rumour that you burn actual fat when you deplete your glycogen stores cause of lack of food) but I just can't do it. I feel discouraged and lethargic. I don't think it really makes a difference other than how you feel in the end cause as long as you get off your bum and do the workout, eat right, you will see results.

I have tried both, back when I was at uni and used to go to the gym at 5 am every day (foreign concept to me now!! lol)

If I ate a proper breakfast I felt kind of lethargic
if I didnt eat, I had no energy and I really didnt push myself

best option for me was a banana on my way down to the gym (was 30min walk) then have a proper breakfast when I got back

basically experiment see what works for you :)

  • I eat a banana or an apple right b4 the workout... it gives me the energy to start..
However.. I don't think waking up 30 min earlier would be a good idea.. otherwise you will tend to avoid doing the workout to sleep those 30 mins and then eventually ending up doing nothing!

Try to have a fix (flexible) time during the day..

I do it at 16:30.. if not then at 17:00.. if not.. then at 17:30.. and this is my deadline..

    Hope that will help

I get up half an hour earlier to fit my workout in, as I don't really have much time in the evenings.

If I procrastinate I don't do the workout, so I get up and just get on with the workout. I usually don't eat breakfast till I've done my workout, showered and am ready to go to work.

I do think it's a personal preference though. As said earlier, you should experiment with eating/not eating etc.

Its down to preference but I find if I eat before a workout I can often feel it jiggle around in my belly whilst jumping about so I do not eat or drink anything till after :)
