For the past month, I had been trying to drop weight (again!) by eating clean (or what I thought was primal/paleo). I wans't doing bad - about 1 lb per week, but I didn't have a good grasp of what primal/paleo really entails.

Last Friday I joined this group to try to get more info and ideas. It was then I realized my carbs and sugar were too high. So... last Friday, I dropped them down to 50g carbs and 25g sugar. I'm trying to be about 90% primal (I still refuse to give up my coffee with creamer and have an occassional slip/treat). Even with my creamer, my goal is to stay within those number (not very successfully - I still tend to average around 75g). But...

TA DA!!! I've dropped 3.2 lbs in one week! (that's almost an average of 1/2 lb per day! )

It's amazing what one little tweak can do! My goal now is to try to work down to staying under the 50g carbs. I just need to plan a little better.

Good job. You're doing great. If you're using powdered or non-dairy creamer, throw it out and switch to heavy cream or halfnhalf. Use the real stuff. Not only does it taste better but it is better for you.

i think i'm going to have to do the same. 3lbs in a month is kind of off putting. the thought of carbs that low makes me shudder, i love fruit, but i think i need to get the basics right before i allow for grapes every day...
peppers and salad veg will be my go to nibbles at work for the next month, see if that makes a difference

I switched over to Natural Bliss Creamer this morning. It still has sugar, but only 3 ingredients - cream, milk, sugar.
  • Congrats on the weight loss! Lowering carbs and increasing fat works wonders. We paleo/primal people are superior fat burners! On the topic of coffee, I will offer some advice, because my discovery of it has amped up my fat intake and energy levels. Has anyone tried Bulletproof Coffee? http://www.bulletproofexec.com/how-to-make-your-coffee-bulletproof-and-your-morning-too/ That link does a decent job of explaining it. I usually use 16oz of coffee (best kind available), 2-3TBSP of grass-fed (kerry gold unsalted) butter, and 1-2TBSP of MCT Oil or a Giant spoonful of coconut oil. Combine all that in a blender and it makes this supercharged latte.

Butter and coffee. It gets your cream fix, caffeine, and energy (from the fat content). And that's all you'll need for breakfast. I usually can go until dinner without eating a thing.

Some folks love this, some folks don't. Anyway, figured i'd share it.

Many of us do BP coffee regularly. But it's good to mention it for the newbies :) I usually get half of my 150 grams of daily fat in my BPC. It's super tasty. I like a strong coffee, 2 Tbsp butter, 2 tbsp MCT, 1/2 cup of coconut milk and some cinnamon. We each have our own recipe. One thing to mention is that with MCT oil, start slower because it will give you an upset stomach initially.

It works with MCT oil the best since that's a pure medium chain triglyceride that boosts metabolism. You don't have to have MCT oil though. It can be made with 2 Tbsp of coconut oil, also a medium chain triglyceride, but MCT is just a more pure and concentrated form. This is why many are using coconut oil to boost metabolism and fat burning, even those who are not necessarily Paleo.
