I have been doing Paleo for most of the last 2.5 months or so. I have never used butter in anything. Today I was searching for a Paleo Roasted Chicken recipe and almost all of them that came up included butter... Is butter allowed? I assumed this was a dairy item and just never used it...

Dairy is not allowed on Paleo, but it's ok on Primal. You can use olive or coconut oil instead of butter, though.0

Butter is okay on Paleo, but look for grass-fed butter. Kerrygold is a great brand. Ghee is also a good option that is considered Paleo. It's clarified butter.
Here's an article on butter:

Practical Paleo, which is a pretty widely-accepted paleo resource, uses butter. You usually can swap butter for whatever fat you want, though!0

Butter is fine if you handle dairy well. The end.
This bizarre paleo/primal divide on these boards is just silly.0
