Hi all. I had GB RNY 8/2007. I was never an over eater. I did make poor food choices & I did not exercise past the age of 14. I decided to get surgery after finding out I had PCOS. I had 3 miscarriages & it was suggested to me if I had surgery & lost weight it would be easier for me to conceive. Well...my HW was 300lbs & I only lost 80lbs getting to 220lbs. I got pregnant in 2009 & lost that pregnancy which caused me to go into severe depression to this date. I currently weigh 270lbs & would like to get within my ideal BMI with a goal lost of 125lbs. I've considered revision surgeries but I value my husband of 13yrs way too much to risk my life again. So here I am... I joined MFP to naturally lose weight. I've become obsessed with working out & don't know the correct amount of calories im supposed to intake. The MFP tools I believe overestimate caloric intake and just don't make since to me. Why if im trying to lose weight would I ever eat the calories that I've exercised off. I don't understand the logic behind their recommendations. Im 5'5" & 270lbs. I eat between 800-1100 calories per day. I don't sit up & eat junk either. I work out between 1hr & 2 1/2hrs some days as im desperately trying to get this weight off so I can get pregnant & provide my husband a child. My time is ticking as im about to be 33yrs old. Any advice or comments are needed and appreciated. I need HELP figuring out how to use this tool to my advantage so I can get results. Thanks for taking the time to read. I also will accept friends.

Congrats on trying to lose the weight. I wouldn't think that you would really require revision surgery in just a few short years. I think getting back to basics should ensure that your pouch is still in good shape, even if it stretched some. I would go back to the beginning and first do the five day pouch test, or even a 30 minute test meal (I know people here know about the five day test and I know about the 30 minute test.) I believe the pouch should not hold over 6-8 ounces of food tops after a period of time. If you find that it is compromised, maybe try liquids in protein form for a bit, then go back to the 1000-1200 calories, focusing on protein, water, and fresh veggies and fruit. Walk at least thirty minutes per day and work up to more if you can., Try some curls for strength training to start. I have a good friend who had rny 19 years ago and has followed these guidelines and managed to drop from 280 to 190 within 11 months. Be sure, though, that you are still taking your supplements. Hope this helps!0

I have never done the five day pouch test, but I know other members here have. I would google it--it has something to do with liquids for two days and then soft proteins after. The test I have to do every three months for my surgeon is a 30 minute test to determine pouch size. Set a timer for 20 minutes and prepare lean meat (chicken, pork, turkey--NOT fish, it is too soft) Weigh out 8 oz. of meat and see how much you are able to eat within that 30 minute period before you reach your "full sign." Try to eat slowly. Whatever is left, weigh again. Say that when you are done, you have 3 oz. of chicken left. That means your pouch holds 5 oz. My doctor asks me every visit how my pouch is doing.0
