Measuring protein powder

So the nutrition label on my protein powder says "1 scoop (~33 g)"
Approximately? What does that even mean?!
I find that one scoop definitely does not come close to 33 g.
I know that weighing is always the most accurate - which is what I do for everything else. But that little approximation sign makes me wonder if they did the nutrient analysis based on the size of the scoop...
Cutting to my point...do I weigh? Or scoop? There's gotta be a cut and dry answer for this. Sorry for being the idiot who asked.

Weigh it as the scoops can be off, especially depending on how packed or heaped it is, as you have experienced. I usually weigh it to get an eye for the real size of the serving in the scoop - then use the scoop after than - however, weighing every time is best, especially if you are like me and have a bunch of protein powders and end up getting the scoops mixed up.0

I weighed my whey powder this morning for the first time. Happy to see the full scoop came very very close to the serving size on the container.
Unfortunately my guesstimate for a "tablespoon" of peanut butter (16g) was way off ...0 -
Because of this post, I weighed my scoop for the first time today. Wow! way off. It is more like a scoop and a half. Then I spilled half the container on the floor. Poop!0

I do this too. My old ON powder specifically said a "heaped" scoop and I was like 'F U what the F does that mean?" so I weighed it. turns out they just mean, you know, SLIGHTLY over the lip, barely. My new powder, a scoop is slightly BELOW.
But, I don't weigh every time - just the first few times to get good idea. This reminds me I need to order more ....0 -
Like Sara, i weigh it once or twice to get an idea, then use the scoop thereafter.0

i scoop because i don't have a scale.
I think i might not be nit-picky enough to be one of the cool kids LOL.0 -
What struck me odd about mine is not so much the scoop thing but that it states one serving is 28.4 grams. .4???!!!! Who has a scale that measures in 1/10th increments?
If everybody here does have one I'm going to be very embarrased.0 -
My scale doesn't weight 10ths either. I have seen some little tea scales that do.0

Mine doesn't, and if people do, they could well be measuring things they are not going to admit to!0
