Hello all!
Just wondering if anyone in this group follows a primal or paleo lifestyle while on EM2WL workout and calorie plan?

If so, how has it worked out? Have you lost weight? What changes have you noticed? Positives, negatives, etc.
I would love to hear other people opinions on this and what to expect.
Thanks!

Hi there! I've been eating primal since Dec. 2011 and it works just great with the EM2WL, in my opinion.

I had originally lost weight eating a very low calorie diet (the standard MFP 1200), but as soon as I started "maintenance" I started gaining. I researched and found the whole concept of eating TDEE minus a small deficit, then began losing the few I had gained.

When I started primal/paleo was about when I started maintaining easier...probably because I really enjoyed the foods and exercise lifestyle and philosophy. I do count calories and carbs and keep them with in my macro settings just like I did before, but I eat more and I'm weighing less, as they say!

I havea hard time with Paleo because I really like dairy. I purchased a great book called "It starts with food". From what I read it would work great with EM2WL.
  • I do Paleo and EM2WL. I don't think any eating plan is excluded by EM2WL. Basically, I just eat Paleo approved foods to get to my daily caloric goal. I, however, don't follow the 4/30/30 macronutrient ratio, since Paleo pushes for eating tons of good fat. I'm actually at 50/30/20 fat/protein/carb and have been seeing a slightly greater weight loss than was estimated both in heybales' calculator and Scooby, better exercise recovery probably because of the diet's anti-inflammatory properties, and the other Paleo advantages of better sleep, more energy, better skin, etc.
If you do like dairy, go Primal...which is basically Paleo plus raw dairy.

Thanks ladies.... It's going good so far. Just got to get myself into the working out concept. I've got the eating down pretty good, and am feeling awesome. Just need to get the fitting in my physical activity other than my everyday activities. I eat a piece of cheese once every week or two weeks. Don't have any raw dairy products in my state, so that'll do for now. So far I've lost ten, but plan on losing a lot more. :-)

Just the question I was looking for. Thanks for the great responses everyone.

I do wonder how you get you calories up eating Paleo/Primal. I'm pretty full at each meal.

I'm finding that I tend to end up around 1500-1600 cals eating primal. This is right around my BMR. Do I just add some nuts? I've been limiting them. Maybe some extra cheese?
  • Yeah, I usually add more nuts, coconut butter, or avocado to a meal to raise the good fats and calories.
