If you have any good resources or tools that might help people with their health and weight struggles (especially in regards to alcohol) then please post them here. Thanks!

Here's one I use often... If you ever wondered how many calories are in that beer at your local brewpub... Check this page out: http://www.simplybeer.com/how-many-calories-are-in-my-beer/

I have the chart on my phone. I find out what the ABV is for the beer I'm getting and then just use the middle of the two possible calorie counts and that seems to work pretty good for me. Remember those numbers are for 12 oz servings. What I do is divide by 12 to get a per oz calorie count and then just multiply that by the size glass I'm ordering 16, 20, etc...

  • Don't know how many of you homebrewers have heard about this but Brewtarget is a great FREE open source brewing software. It does a ton of calculations for your beer including estimating how many calories will be in a single serving. My husband is the creator and lead developer on the program (shameless plug). Check it out!

    Thanks leidamarietir,

Free is good. I'll have to check it out. Is there any plans for a mobile companion app?

ratebeer.com also lists the calories in beer, though they just give an estimate. The formula they use is 30 calories per 12 ounces per ABV %. So a bottle of 5% ABV beer would be 150 calories, 8% would be 240, etc. I know it's not a perfect formula since some beer add sugars and other adjuncts, but it's a good way for me to estimate the number of calories I take in and my blood alcohol level.

A fellow MFP and I are currently in the process of doing a trade. Neither of us have ever done a trade before, so I did a little research and found a couple useful links to help anyone out that might be interested. Check em out.

A blog with tips for packaging and trading beers: http://alewatcher.blogspot.com/2010/11/new-trader-tips.html

A distribution map to see where a brewery delivers to: http://www.seekabrew.com/distro/index.html (Not sure how accurate or up to date it is...)

    Cheers!!

How did your trade end up? I'd love to find me a good distributor (friend that is) for some Pliny the Elder and other Russian River brews...
