I thought I'd start this out of frustration because I'm not getting any motivation at home or on this web site. Perhaps if a few of us can get together on here and help each other out, it would be helpful.
Hope it works. Kind of my last gasp for help with motivation though I'll not stop trying to lose weight.

Hello all.....We can do this!! Stop in and let's help each other.0

I turned 57 yesterday (yeah me!!!). I have 52 more pounds to lose. I'm using TurborFire and have 2 weeks left of a 20 week program. Next I'm on to Supreme 90 Day.0
-
Hi Jacci! Happy Birthday and congrats! I've never heard of TurborFire. But good for you! What's Supreme 90 Day?0
-
Supreme 90 Day is a workout similar to Insanity or P90X -- but costs a LOT less (like $20; though I got mine for $9). Thanks for the birthday wishes.0

I am here for you, as well as needing support. Sad thing is I have three adult children that give me no support at all. I started out at 231 and am down to 208. was so proud of that loss, told them and nada response at all.
so lets cheer each other on, and be there for each other.0 -
Bella, that's fantastic!!! Hang in there. Don't worry about your kids. Once they see you losing weight, doing your own thing and getting on with your life, they'll be clamoring after you. Don't always 'be there' for your kids unless it's an emergency (meaning blood, pestilence, natural disaster or disease) LOL
I'm over 300 pounds so I have a long way to go. My first goal is 275.0 -
Also over 50 and single but find it easier that way. It's so hard to lose weight when someone is munching sweets the other side of the room! Also it's better if there are no biscuits in the house. I'm doing low carb at the moment. Trying to stick to 20g of carbs a day but as many calories as I want. Anyone else doing that?0
-
Bella, Well done you!0
-
Hi there. I'm just logging calories but I notice when I eat more protein, I'm not as hungry. As well as drinking more. Hang in there. You are right, it's somewhat easier when you don't have someone eating in front of you.0
-
Good job!!! I am in the same boat as you. My grown daughters are supportive, but I kinda have to fish for a compliment. I think they are worried about putting pressure on me.0
-
So happy to find this group - as it fits me perfectly! It is all too easy on those low-motivation days to just go home from work and veg. The dog doesn't seem to mind at all. :laugh:0
-
Those of you with kids, don't let them get you down. They have their lives and you have yours. Do your best to not depend on them for compliments. Play hard to get and see what happens. LOL0
-
Hell all, Im single with 200pds to lose. I have no idea how to plan out a program for myself. Need help.0
-
LOL I have an 18 year old nephew living with me that I never see and 4 dogs that, as dogs are wont to do, adore me no matter what. It is hard when you don't have a lot of support. But I"m trying to be here. Tuesdays is the only day I'm away from my computer.0

1loochie:
First, DON'T diet. Start out by just trying to measure everything you eat and logging it. Don't try to stop eating at this point. Just get used to logging in. If you can, get a good digital food scale and keep measuring cups handy.
2nd. See what you can do 2 or 3 times a week as far as exercise is concerned. For me it was standing up and sitting down on the couch several times. I also have over 150 to lose. Just moving is hard enough. I try to walk every day. Even slowly if it's to the mailbox and back.
Take it slow. Don't go crazy. Do the non-dieting, logging until your comfortable that what you are doing is accurate. Then you can start cutting calories.0 -
Hi everyone. I as well are over 50 but I am married. My husband is a truck driver therefore hardly ever home...he is supportive when he is home though. Although a very bad influence...he eats bad and is overweight as well. I started at 235, went down to 208 and now back up to 219. Yikes, it is hard. Motivation is really hard.0
-
Well, keep checking in. Do your best when he's around to not get roped in. In the meantime, we're here. Go back to basics and log everything. You can do it.0
-
I'm so far over 50 it's sad. I'm a fat and been on a diet my whole life. So with what time I have left I'm going to be thin and healthy.1
-
Aw Randy!! Hang in there. I've been overweight since my mid teens. Hang in there. Log all your food and make sure you measure properly so you don't get discouraged.0

Hi Everybody! I just started using this site and really love it. I am over 50, single and have about 85lbs I would like to lose. I used to jog 3 miles a day (years ago), but had a back injury and had to stop. Then I got sick, had a couple of surgeries... getting old bites!!
I have a desk job and would rather read a book than take a walk, so I have to convince myself to get moving. I already am seeing that I don't drink enough water, and that just cutting back on a slice of cheese can make a big difference.
I am trying to take more walks at work and drink more water. I saved reminders on my computer's calendar feature that pop up and remind me that I need to walk and drink.
This is great that we have a little forum here where we can support each other. We have all taken the first step and logged in, so now we just need to stick with it. Give yourself credit for your progress and don't dwell on the failures. It's not how many times we fall, but how many times we get back up! That's a quote from somebody :-)0 -
Welcome, welcome. You are right. I'm sitting here with some cookies I've saved all day for. I have no idea, if I ever get down to a goal weight, how I'm going to give up the good stuff. Oh well, one day at a time.0

Hi Everyone. I am over 50 and ♥LOVE♥ it. I have 20 more pounds to lose...although I recently lost 8 pounds in a WEEK. Nope, it wasn't a miracle diet...it was a STRESS diet. At age 54 years old, I was recently told that my job (that I've been at for 23 years) may be discontinued soon. Well, I am not a "stress eater". To the contrary, I am like a "stress anorexic"...I simply want to throw up if I eat something when I am stressed. THANK GOD...that after a 3-day trip to Vegas (and MUCH prayer)...the stress is gone, I have accepted that "It is what it is!!" Since I can't control it, I won't worry about it.
With all of that said, I want to THANK YOU for creating this group...and let you know how HAPPY I am to be a part of it.0 -
Jeannie, I'm so sorry to hear about your job issues. It's so hard! If you can hang in there through this, you can hang in through anything. We need to keep helping each other.0
-
Thanks, honey! I'm good right now and love the support.0

Hello everyone. 56 and single. Gained over 30 lbs in a short time. I quit smoking in November, menopause kicked in last month, and I am on hyperthyroid meds (to lower my metabolism). Ive been a size 2 most of my life (probably because my thyroid gland worked overtime) and suddenly I became a size 10. I lost my job in September and am on unemployment for the first time in my life. Quite distressing overall.
I found this site last month and started using it 2 weeks ago. I'm on it all the time. I'm not losing weight much even though I am eating really healthily now, no processed food, 5-8 servings of fruits and veggies per day, and drinking 8-10 cups of water per day. My exercise is coming along. Since its getting towards springtime here in south Carolina, I'm using yard work as my exercise, I use light housecleaning, too. Today, I found a 20-25 minute workout on YouTube. It's called Jillian michaels 30 day shred. Supposedly you can lose something like 7 lbs, and 7 inches. Since I'm not losing much with what I'm doing, thought I'd try one of these workout things. I just started level 1; there are three levels for 10 days each. I thought I was going to die today. I went much slower than the girls on the video, and still had to modify it down a bit. But I kept moving. Day one of level 1 is over and I will keep this up.
No matter what, I feel so much better that I have quit smoking and am exercising daily, eating well and drinking lots of water.
I filled out all the blanks from this site and it put me on a 1200 calorie per day diet. I stuck to that but went nowhere. I read more about all of this, and found tHat I should be eating more calories. I'm now on about 1600 per day. More than enough. As long as I do not bring my bad foods into the house (chips, ice cream, candy), then I'm good with counting calories. I've slipped up three times since I started. But I just shrugged the slip ups off and kept going. You can really eat a lot if you stick to non processed foods. A whole can of spinach with a bit of Parmesan cheese is only 85 calories. Navel oranges are 45 calories. I cook batches of veggies then freeze them in large portions that I can eat at one sitting. I eat only brown rice. I cook up black beans from dry. Mixed with brown rice and some diced tomatoes is delicious, healthy, and about 300 calories. I've never been much of a meat eater, but I do cook up chicken breasts now and then, and white fish. I was eating catfish, but the fat and mercury content is much too high so i switched to tilapia. I just keep reading about health and slowly am making changes to my diet and exercise.
I started at 141 lbs and today weighed 137.5. Not much of a loss, but I still feel better.1 -
Hi, I'm 54 but I actually feel like 44, and I want to look like 44. I'm new to this program and I want to be successful and reach my goals.0

Hello Pelo & Ig,
Welcome. Each day is a new start. It's so easy for me to say that but I ate a whole pack of 'Hit' cookies. About 700 calories. I ate them a lot when I was a child living in Germany (happiest time of my life) so those cookies bring back a lot of good feelings. And, of course, two cookies just won't do. <sigh>
Anyway, I'm starting again today. I hope everyone can do well. Please check in and encourage each other. Log in as often as possible to get/give encouragement. It's so important.
If you're having a rough day, think about what you would say to a best friend and then, say it to yourself. Don't be too hard on yourself.
Go get 'em!!!!0 -

NEVER EVER say "not much of a loss". Any loss is good.1

Hi Fellow members!
It is great to see all the posts and see how everyone is doing. We are all working on making a lifestyle change. We are all committed to taking better care of ourselves. I find it inspiring!
In general I find that people are so critical of themselves, me too. When I remember, I try to see myself as a parent taking care of a child. I don't want to be mean to that child, I want to be caring and loving. I tell myself positive statements, you know, like "you can do this" and "you are getting stronger every day". It might sound silly, but I think it helps.
I also went through a lay off a year ago, and have to say that it was a blessing in disguise. I moved to a new state to take a job and I love it here! I am making new friends, and more money. Don't be afraid of change, embrace it! And give yourself a hug for being brave!1
