Recovery Drink

Now that this group is here I can post this without getting all the "that's not a good idea" or "why would you want to do that" or "beer is evil" responses.

I am running a half marathon on Feb 17 and need to decide on a good recovery drink. Criteria are as follows:
1. It has to be something I already have or that I can get in Austin between now and Feb 16
*. The name or the pure awesomeness of the drink must be fitting of the occassion
B. It should be at least 9%ABV (8% would be a bare bare minimum but ... you know)
IV. With a few exceptions I'm not a fan of IPA or super hoppy beers for the most part

My first half-marathon was December 1 and my recovery drink was The Beast. I felt that it met both criteria of * above. That said, I don't want to do a repeat.

Here's what I have available now that meets the criteria:
120 Minute IPA
Avery The Czar
Bitches Brew
Samael's
Mephistopheles (but I only have one from 2010 and one from 2011 and the 2012s I have I'd like to wait a while to open so I could but probably not unless I can't come up with a better one)
Trappistes Rochefort 10
Chimay Bleu
Jester King Black Metal Stout
Some others I can't think of right now because I'm at work and not at home where I can gaze at it longingly.

So, any input would be greatly appreciated!

    Southern Tier Choklat
    Victory Twelve

Can't get Three Floyds anything here (dammit). I have St. Bernardus Abt 12 in the fridge. I had forgotten about that one.

Don't think Southern Tier is available here either.

Victory 12 looks pretty damn good. I'll have to see if I can find it.

It is. It's HUGE. Boozy as hell.

The Great Divide Yeti's are about 9% or so too.. might be worth looking at.

There was a local spot here that would serve the chocolate oak aged yeti with a piece of fried bacon in it. There just aren't words.

    That sounds good.

The Yetis are good but they're a little too "every day" for an occassion beer.

Agreed. They're tasty, but if it's a special occasion, I'm in agreement.

Left Hand Widdershins. 10% ABV Barleywine. Had a 2003 pour of this not long ago and was amazed.

OH.. Melange No. 3 from the Bruery.

I think you have a great one right in your list.

    The Trappistes Rochefort 10

I't a little on the sweet side for me, but still a quite tasty beer, and seems like a perfect post race beer

Trappistes Rochefort 10 is my favorite Belgian. I keep it in the fridge but rarely drink it because then I won't have it in the fridge any more.

You have Boulevard in TX right? How about one of their big beers like Rye-on-Rye, Bourbon Barrel Quad or Imperial Stout? Pretty special but not TOO hard to obtain.

Brooklyn Black Ops? Or is that too rare?

    Alaskan Baltic Porter or Barlyewine?

    Deschutes Abyss?

New Belgium Lips Of Faith - Coffee Chocolate Imperial Stout?

North Coast barrel-aged old rasputin (the new anniversary just came out in the past few weeks)

Rogue double chocolate or XS imperial stout?

Just throwing out some choices you can get in TX.

I can get Rye on Rye pretty easily. I haven't tried it yet but have been meaning to.
I passed on the Black Ops and then it was all gone.
Haven't seen Alaskan Baltic Porter but have been looking for it.
Missed the Abyss at four different stores by two days :(
Haven't seen Lips of Faith in a while but I'll keep an eye out.
They had barrel aged Old Raspy at the store this weekend but I passed. It's good and all but they wanted too much for it. I may go back and if they still have some pick one up.
Never seen Rogue double chocolate but it sounds like a great recovery drink - everyone recommends chocolate milk so how could double chocolate beer be bad?

Hard to go wrong with anything from Chimay.
Even the Fin du Monde stuff doesn't suck, and you might be able to find it at Target. Not sure if they distribute that far south.
Can you find Ommegang's offerings in TX? They do some awesome Belgian style brews.

Fin du monde is happy. Unibroue does some good brew. The Grande Reserve 17 is pretty happy too. Ommegang, again, is another winner as well.

Fin du Monde is good but kind of every day. I like Ommegang Three Philosophers but if I'm going to go with a quad that I've had before I'll go Trappistes Rochefort 10 or Chimay.

I'm very intrigued by the Victory V12. We get Victory stuff down here and now I'm going to try to find that one. If I can find it it may very well be the one. It's called Victory FFS. How could that not be a good after race drink? 12% doesn't hurt anything either.

When there is good beer to be had we ALL win.

My quest begins tomorrow. I'll still take any recommendations for recovery drinks.

By the way, I have some 2011 boulevard bourbon barrel quad if you want a bottle. I can probably get it to you by the 16th. Depends if we get buried in snow on Friday or not. Assuming you fail in your quest to find some V12.

that beer is insane. in...sane. Yeah, for whatever reason, if you can't find the V12, TAKE THIS OFFER AND RUN!

Also: Gulden Draak, Weyerbacher Quad, Avery's Reverend, and Troegs Flying Mouflan came to mind as I was looking back over untappd.

Gulden Draak and The Reverend are both great beers. Love them.

Just had an idea. If I actually finish the thing in 2 hours a 120 Minute IPA would be deliciously appropriate.

I believe there will be more than one Recovery Drink that day. And my agency is closed the next day! (just for me I'm sure).

    For those interested:

I ended up starting off with a 120 Minute IPA. Followed by a Pike's Kilt Lifter (I was unimpressed). Ended the evening with the above mentioned Bourbon Barrel Quad - which was outfreakinstanding.

I've had that Kilt Lifter before. Agreed, nothing to write home about, especially since I can't really remember it. That usually tells me it's wasn't very good, or very bad.

It was really light bodied and just didn't have much flavor. I'm used to heavier and sweeter from a Scotch Ale.
