I am currently on day of my metabolism reset. I was wondering if it was mandatory to set your macros to 40/30/30 and if so why?

It's not mandatory to do anything. 40/30/30 is a pretty good ratio for a high protein diet especially for beginners to strength and such. You don't have to change it to exactly those macros but it's good to aim for high protein, at least 30%, on every day. Not just metabolism reset days. Which btw are dumb just eat more all the time. There's no way your metabolism will reset in one day.

It is not written in stone to the macros that way. The most important thing is to keep your protein high. Aim for 1g of protein per lb of bodyweight. Try to hit your protein macro first. The rest usually falls into line.

The high protein is important, that your body will not go to your muscles and metabolises them if there is not enough protein in your diet. It should ehlp you to keep your muscle while losing fat.

Does it matter when the protein is ingested with relation to the workout? I exercise at the end of the day after dinner. Should I make sure to get protein after working out or is it enough to eat it throughout the day?

if you can squeeze more in before sleeping, that would give body something to work with during main repair time.

I have my macros set for 30% carbs, 35% protein and 35% healthy fats. I tend to focus on eating my carbs in the morning and early afternoon, phasing them out through late afternoon and into evening.

I try to eat something with protein in it about 2-3 hours before bed time to keep my metabolism burning while I sleep!
