Waiting for test results, advice?

I have family history (dads side) both my father and grandmother developed diabetes in their older years. All three of us are pretty hefty people. I am 30 and at 344lbs today (lost 15lbs some where in the past few months). I have always wanted to purchase a meter and monitor myself occasionally. I often felt very ill if i was very active and didn't have a big enough meal or when i often skipped breakfast.
So, i received my tax money last week, went out and purchased all the stuff required to monitor myself with only the idea i'd be doing it about twice a month. My first fasting (10hrs) glucose was 224. on 02-03-2013. The highest ive been is 401. I went to the doctor wendsay but not expected to know the results until a followup on the 20th. Yesterday was my first day using Myfit to try and monitor what i eat and had my first reading under 200 (188), Still high but it was a great feeling.
Also my blood pressure was high at the doctor (never had problems before). When i got my first under 200 reading of 188 i asked the nurse where i work to check my bp and it was lower, is high glucose and blood pressure related to each other? I plan to have my bp checked several times before i return to the doctor. The tests we did was A1c, Cholesterol and Liver ensime. My doctor wanted to do a complete blood panel and on the 2nd appointment do a physical but i have no insurance so we are breaking up the tests into smaller chunks.
Since im still waiting on results i don't really know what to do until then. I dont know what i should be looking for in carbs or calories. What ive read is that i should be going by my meter. I did notice my before breakfast reading this morning was significantly lower than normal but still over 200 and im sure this is because i ate under 1800 calories yesterday. This morning my balance was horrible and i feel pretty emotional today like crying about everything which is not normal.
All i know is im eating very little, feel incredibly hungry but scared to eat because numbers are still high.

What you're feeling is completely normal...I felt the same way when I found out I was a member of the club no one wants to join.
That meter you bought told you what you need to know - you are diabetic if you have 2 fasting numbers above 126. It's great that you've seen your numbers come down below 200 in a week!!
Your diary isn't open. the simplest thing i can tell you is that carbs are not your friend. Losing some weight will help with insulin resistance/blood pressure/cholesterol etc etc etc, so calories are important, but slashing your carb intake is key to gaining control of your blood glucose levels. You mentioned eating to your meter and that's exactly what you need to do. Three great sites are
bloodsugar101.com - tons of information broken down so it's easy to understand
diabetes.org - make sure to visit the community forums!
http://loraldiabetes.blogspot.com/2006/10/test-review-adjust.html - a blog by a frequent contributor to the diabetes.org forums
You may also want to do some reading on any of the above sites about "false lows". The fact that you've dropped so much in a short amount of time may also explain the balance issues and emotional rollercoaster.
It's a lot to take in! Good luck to you!0 -
I wont add to the ecxeloent advice given by KDIPAZZ other than a book that I recommend. A must read for diabetics is Richard K. Bernstein “Dr. Bernstein’s Diabetes Solution.”0

I have no idea why I always forget Dr Bernstein, as his insistence that diabetics can and should aspire to truly "normal" readings has greatly influenced my diabetes management!!! I do think the amount of technical information can be a little overwhelming in the first couple of weeks after diagnosis ... I know my head was spinning!
Also, his book is available online at no cost. http://www.diabetes-book.com/0 -
Agree's with all of the above.. I also wanted to mention, that they highly recommend exercise in some form. this also helps to lower/regulate your blood sugars
I have an open food diary and also sent you friend invite0
