The Weekly Male Stop 2/8 - 2/14

I like the idea of a weekly progress check post, so I'll start the topic this week. I am pretty amazed by the great progress from the guys who frequent this group, which is giving me a lot of motivation.
This past week I got super busy with travel and work, and I missed out on a lot of exercise. Still lost 2 pounds, even though I was less than 100% on target on the diet. Lots of salads and a lot less wine and beer.
Going into my third week of really working this weight-loss journey, I want to keep trimming down on the food and portions and ramp the exercise back up in order to stay on track toward my 66 pound goal.
Keep it up guys, and keep posting - it's great to hear how everyone is doing!

I have been using MFP for about three weeks. First week was the eye opener, followed by getting a bodymedia fit as a companion product. Between knowing my intake (MFP) and my burn (BMF), I have lost 8lbs first week, followed by 5lbs this week and this included a cheat weekend in Pittsburgh with beers and not so good foods. Good stuff and looking forward to continuing. Started at 299 and now at 263. I have about 33-38lbs more to go.0

Today is day 20 of MFP. On January 23, the Doctor's scale said 280 lbs. That night my wife and I each downloaded MFP and we've been using it since. It has been an eye opening experience. "Eat healthy" has turned into "Eat Healthy and not so much". I remember at the tail end of the first week putting a portion of homemade stew in a take-out container and a couple of bananas into the car so that I could eat them at my son's soccer practice - only to realize that I didn't have the calories remaining to eat the bananas. Pre-MFP I probably would have downed the stew, 2 or 3 pieces of fruit and a granola bar.
The first week was over 12 pounds lost and the second week was a good week too. Lately the scale has been stuck at 260 and I'm worried about getting so frustrated I'll quit.
Two things hit me over the past 3 weeks:
1) the goal that my doctor set me up for would take my BMI simply from obese to overweight. Unacceptable - I've reset the target to have a normal BMI.
2) I have to significantly ramp up the physical activity. The gym membership is not to be ignored and I'm building a list of when the local skating rinks are open and when the local swimming pools are available for laps.
This morning the visit to bathroom scale showed a decrease past that plateau. I really good thing because I hated the way I ate yesterday.0 -
I used MFP last year to trim down (went from 245 to 214). I have slowly gained back all of it. So, I'm back at it starting this week. Happy to find a group like this and like the idea of checking in from time to time.
Enjoy!0 -

Dale,
Thanks for getting the thread going this past week. I had a parade I had to get to last week and completely forgot our weekly thread.
I know I'm a week late, so I'll save some news for tomorrow's thread. But today, on at least three occasions at work, I saw guys with beach ball bellies. Now I know I got a ways to go, but last Saturday I had my wife do some measuring. I had lost 6-7 inches from the waist and I can see it in the mirror that my beach ball has lost quite a bit of air.
I'll be back tomorrow and and hopeful to add another 2-3 lbs to my ticker.

Thadius & Brian,
Good to see you join the thread. You both are doing good.
Brian, I used the BMI thing on this site, and for 5'10", it says I need to weigh 174 to be at my healthy weight. Of course it doesn't take into consideration my age, skeleton structure or my gender. I just don't think I want to be under 175. Maybe 185-190? I set my goal for 200, but I probably need to change it at some point.0 -

amisnercpa,
Welcome to our club. I guess you can call it a club if we get it going a bit more. I went from 250 to 200, two years ago, but when I got where I wanted, I did the same as you. That's why I'm here. I'm using MFP as a diary this time and plan to use it a while after I get to my goal weight just to get into a habit of what I need to do to maintain.
At least that's the plan! :happy:0
