I love MFP because I can see what everyone is eating. What are some staples on your grocery list? For me, its organic salad vegetables, chicken, fish, beef, eggs . . . but I would love to expand my menu a little.

Do you use the coconut milk in place of regular milk? What do you use the coconut flakes for?
And how do you eat the octopus? Straight from the container?
Thanks!0 -

Coconut milk is for my green smoothies and hot chocolate. I add the octopus to soups and salads. The coconut flakes are for my homemade granola... well more like trail mix.0

I have a freezer full of moose, caribou, halibut, salmon and rock fish.
So my meat purchases are primarily limited to chicken, pork, and tuna.
Eggs
Fresh veggies - lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, asparagus, broccoli, califlower, bok choy, peppers, and onions.
Potatoes - Sweet, fingerling, yukon gold and red
Lemons and limes (and apples for hubby)
Avocados in the summer, Wholly guacamole in the winter (once it's cold here the fresh avocados tend to be really bad)
Canned tomatoes, tomato sauce and tomatoe paste, green beans, and olives.
Coconut oil and olive oil
Salsa, Franks Cayene Sauce, Dijon mustard
Cashews, Lara bars, coconut milk ice cream, and dark chocolate
Coffee, tea and wine
And the completely non Paleo: Rice, rice crackers, corn tortillas, tortilla chips, and black beans. I tend to alternate between following Paleo guidelines and just being gluten, soy & dairy free. It's also a practical consideration as I own a food business and the primary menu is fusion tacos.0 -
This is fantastic! I was just writing out my very first paleo list:) Thanks!!0

MUST-HAVE STAPLES:
Fresh spinach*, romaine lettuce*, cucumbers*, celery*, yellow onions*, garlic*, peppers, turnips, cauliflower, frozen berries for smoothies, and assortment of frozen veggies (can't beat the convenience)
Eggs (organic)*, chicken thighs, whole chickens, beef, pork, lamb. For meat, I usually get whatever is on sale; haven't gone grass-fed yet, but getting close
Coconut oil*, kerrygold butter, apple cider vinegar, balsamic vinegar, coconut aminos, canned coconut milk, So Delicious coconut milk in cartons (for the boyz), Bolthouse Farms bottled salad dressings (the healthiest, tastiest bottled dressings I have found yet), Dijon mustard
Coffee*, chia seeds, almonds*, gluten-free bread* and basmati rice (for the boyz)
Salt, pepper, hot sauce, True Lemon, spices and herbs (way too extensive to go into here...could make a nice thread..."What seasonings and condiments do you use most?")
This is a super-short list, just items that I know I reach for very frequently. The items marked with * are those for which I would run screaming to the nearest store if I discovered I was out. I do 95% of my shopping at Costco, Gordon's Food Service, and Meijers (Michigan girl).0 -
I have 2 huge freezers full of homegrown grassfed beef so my shopping list basics are:
Protein: canned tuna and salmon, fresh fish, occasionally some chicken or pork, bacon or salami plus ham (not strictly primal I know), cheese, eggs from the neighbour
Fats: olive oil from neighbours olive grove (plain and lime infused), butter, cream, coconut cream
Vegetables: lots from my garden but when I run out: salad mix, red cabbage, onions, broccoli, mushrooms, red/green peppers, zucchini, carrots, celery, cauliflower, 'emergency' bag of frozen veg for a stirfry when the fridge is empty (so I have no excuses!)
Fruit: lemons from my aunt, berries - generally only what is growing in my garden in season, avocados, apples (free from work), fresh whole coconut, sometimes a pineapple for a special treat
Other: coffee beans, herbs/spices, curry pastes, tomato paste/puree in glass jars, tamari, chilli paste, lemongrass, vinegars (balsamic, red wine), olives, dijon mustard0 -
Chicken - whole, thighs, boneless breasts. Pork tenderloins. Ground beef/turkey. Steaks. Shrimp, salmon, other types of fish fillets.
Baby spinach, garlic, ginger, carrots, frozen broccoli, frozen cauliflower, frozen green beans(sometimes I buy these fresh too). Cucumbers, bell peppers, salad greens.
Olive oil, avocado oil, coconut oil.
Almond milk, coconut milk(in the can, not carton).
I have just about every spice imaginable in my pantry. Lots of dried herbs too.
Canned tuna(I buy from whole foods, contains no soy).0 -
great thread!
for me:
lots of EGGS (scrambled with swisschard for breakfast and hard boiled for snacks), Chicken, Lots of veggies
I guess I need to expand my repertoire as well!0
