Hi All - I'm just starting this primal journey. Anyone use protein shakes as quick meals (or primal fuel)? Or anyone have good ideas for breakfast ideas? I am a mom of 3 year old twins and just a bit busy ...I like to make same meals for whole family so any recommendations would be great. Thank you!

you are busy! I just got back from visiting my best friend who has a new set of twins (b/g) on top of her 3 year old identical boys!
I have this same problem. I've been thinking about making a ton of bacon on Sundays, along with a bunch of scrambled eggs so I can just nuke a nice breakfast. So far, I've been too lazy to do either. Thanks for reminding me!
As for meals, keep it simple. Grill or sautee (using olive oil or coconut oil) some chicken, fish or steak and a veggie. Browse people's diaries if they are open for ideas.0 -
Great morning protein shake recipe:
Ice (about 12 cubes)
1 cup of strong brewed coffee...I like Gloria Jean's Caramel Indulgence
100ml approx of coconut milk
2 tsp flax meal
1 Tbsp almond meal
1 raw egg
1/4 of 1 well-ripened avocado
1 good scoop protein powder of choice ( I like chocolate whey protein, but that's just me)
Stevia powder to taste (optional)
Natural Yoghurt (optional)
Make the coffee, allow to cool for 5-10 minutes with ice cubes (or chill overnight), or make up a batch and keep in the fridge. Chuck everything into your blender and process until smooth. Yummo!
You can also add a handful of chopped greens and I often add a tablespoon of coconut oil.
Makes approx 2 big glasses of shake and keeps me full for hours.0 -
I either do a protein shake (two scoops Isopure Dutch Chocolate and two tsp of chia seeds) or four eggs (two whole, two whites) with some salsa and guacamole. Both are more than enough to get me through to lunch.0

not a protein shake, but I've started making frittata/casserole things regularly and it's been a really great go to meal for me for breakfast. They are pretty versatile. I just make one on the weekend and it usually lasts me through breakfast for the week.
On a weekend or a night when I've got a little extra time (maybe an hour?):
-Cook up some meat (I like local sausages, but ground beef can work too, or I bet some real bacon bits would be good) in a pan along with some veggies (I often use frozen chopped spinach for simplicity and financial reasons). Maybe with a little butter or coconut oil, although it often doesn't need it.
-I then throw in some salt, some garlic (or garlic powder if lazy), and whatever other spices I feel like. Stir around until meat and veggies have just finished cooking, and turn off heat.
-Then I preheat the oven to 325
-In a separate bowl I will whisk some eggs (usually at least 4, sometimes as many as 12)
-I then transfer my meat+ veggies to a pyrex or other oven-safe dish (shallower pie dishes will cook more evenly, but I like making giant ones, so whatever)
-OPTIONAL CHEESE STEP for Primal folks: I used this great local goat cheese ricotta, but mozzeralla would be great too. I mix the softish cheese with the meat+veggies in the pyrex
-Then I pour the scrambled eggs on top so that there's a layer of eggy goodness coating the top. I don't mix it together. If everything isn't covered in egg, I'll usually whisk more eggs and put on top.
-I might sprinkle more cheese or herbs on top but it's not necessary.
-stick the dish in the oven for 30 min, then increase heat to 375 for another 10 min.
-Let cool for 5-10 min to set.
-Slice and enjoy! Heat up a slice in the microwave the next day, and enjoy all week for breakfast!0 -

No, shakes are not a good idea for most people.
Breakfast is like any other meal. It doesn't require a special food.0
