Just a Quick Question: I ate lunch around 11:15 AM and measured my glucose around 1:30 PM. The meter read 83. That seemed okay to me, but my wife is concerned that it is too low.

Is this level a problem?

Well, at bloodsugar101.com, I found this: "Independent of what they eat, the blood sugar of a truly normal person is:

    Under 120 mg/dl (6.6 mmol/L) one or two hours after a meal.

Most normal people are under 100 mg/dl (5.5 mmol/L) two hours after eating.

If that is true, 83 should be okay, right?

  • Art... It is my understanding that 83 is very good. I am under no medication and today after 2 hours, with approximatley 52 carbs, at lunch mine was 87. Hopefully , others will respond and get their thoughts.

Thank you. I am taking medication, but any good reading is good news, right?

    Good luck, WCUCATS77!

That is a good number. You just don't want to go under 70 (or you could go hypoglycemic.. not good. So if you get it down to 70, be careful, but 70 to 100 is what i was told is good area. and better if 70 to 85. So that is a very good number after eating :)

Ditto what Rainey said. 80 is not too low, bang in the middle of good control.

It's been low 80's three days in a row, so I am happy to know it's probably a good number.

It's not a good number, it's a Great number. It is my understanding from extensive research that the best numbers are 83 - 88 before, during, after meals, all day, everyday. Incredible job!
