Question: I am 42 and had laproscoptic surgery on my tubes and ovaries on Feb 1st. I have worked out and eaten right for the most part for 20 years so this is my first experience with just halting my body dramatically like this. I am finding that my body is very tired and weak on some days now which is actually pissing me off. I thought I'd be starting slow working out by now. So my question is... Is this from not working out, lack of muscle and energy? Is it part if my surgery recovery? Is it not normal 22 days post op?? If anyone has any experience with this please help!!

Could be atrophy, but remember, your body is healing itself, which requires energy. Don't get frustrated. Listen to what it needs for the time being.
  • You have stress on your body as it tries to recover from the surgery. You don't need to add additional stress by eating at a deficit at this time. You really should be eating at TDEE maintenance with little exercise. Eating at deficit is a stresser as well as exercise. That is more than your body can handle right now. This should give you the opportunity to eat at your TDEE maintenance level for a week or two.
    Your energy will return.

I think it's pretty normal for surgery. I had hernia repair surgery and it really was a full 6 week recovery.

Surgery -- laproscopic or no -- is a major invasion into your body. You feel tired and weak because your body needs energy to repair the damage. Your doctor probably told you not to lift anything over 5 pounds for at least six weeks, too.

I have never been an energetic, athletic person. But I have never felt so exhausted as I did after my surgeries.

When I was 48, I had a complete hysterectomy, the type where they cut a big slice into the lower belly. I knew that I was going to be sore, but I was not prepared for the exhaustion. After a couple of weeks, there was very little pain, but the fatigue kicked my butt! I broke into a sweat the first time I went out and did some grocery shopping. I fought back by walking through the house and taking every-other-day trips to a store just to push a cart (Target, Home Depot, grocery store). At the end of 8 weeks, I thought I was back to 100% but my first week back at work was tiring, but after a couple more weeks all was back to normal.

Get plenty of rest. Eat well. Walk, walk, walk. Do not lift or do any strenuous exercises.
