I am trying to understand the distribution ratios that are pre-set on the MFP goal setting page for the nutrition area - what are these default settings for % calories from carbs, protien and fats based on? Mine are automatically calculating at 55% carbs, 30% fat and 15% from protien. Is this appropriate? I was surprised to see the protien ratio so low...

MFP does shoot these macros a little wonky in my opinion. Generally, the generic rule of thumb is 40% carbs, 30% protein, and 30% fat. From a technical standpoint, you want to get about .8-1 gram of protein per lb of lean body mass, .3-.8g of fat per lb of lean body mass, then the rest in carbs (whatever is left) which for most people, works out to be the 40/30/30 macro you might see on some of the postings on MFP. If you are doing low carb, then you can adjust your macro on fat up accordingly.

There is also another group on MFP where someone has a spreadsheet and calc information to help with calories and macros, etc...
