hey, a question for you all

i'm 24, weigh 155, and am 5"10

i want to make it to about 170lbs.

the issue: i am broke and can't really afford gym memberships or anything, i have a set of dumbells that only go up to 25lbs per hand, for a total of 50lbs.

the question: are there any good home workouts for a poor man like me, that require mostly body weight and what i have of dumbells?
also, what are some inexpensive things i could add to my grocery list that will give me the necessary amount of proteins, carbs, and (good)fats to bulk up a bit? and what are some things i should REALLY never eat? can i still enjoy the odd cookie here and there? or alcohol?

i do a lot of biking, drumming, and a bit of jogging and skip rope.. i bike everywhere i go, there are about 2 or 3 days a week where i do a total of 3hours of biking, and i already do squats and lunges and stuff, so it's mostly just doing cardio right now i'd raelly like to use my weights and work on my upperbody. and tone my stomach too.

thanks in advance for any help.

  • Hey there - just saw your post so sorry for the late reply - Some ideas for you:

The biking is good for fat burn, if you keep the cardio moderate (not out of breath)-

For calorie dense foods, and not killing the budget, I do the following from Trader Joes (could be Ralphs/ect):

-Organic Brown Rice (Packets, 3 min to heat) - 400 calories per packet (3 packets per box) = $4.00 (1.30 per pack)
-Pre-Cooked Chicken Breast (4 breasts per pack)- 120 calories per breast = $8.00 ($2.00 per breast) cheaper to cook your own if u have time
-Organic Coconut Oil (120 calories per Tbsp) add to rice =$6.00 per can (last 1 month adding every day)
Grass Fed Butter (120 cals per Tbsp) add to rice =$5.00?

As for the in home workouts:

My suggestion is find a friend with an in home gym :) You can do the following in most home settings:

    Pull ups on door frames/ledges
    Diamond pushups
    Curls
    Dips (on Chairs)
    Squats, add weight with objects
    Lunges "
