Do you HAVE to do the reset?

Hi, I'm new so sorry if this has been asked already. I was at my goal weight of 118 last spring. Got VERY off the wagon and got back up to the upper 120s-low 130s. Had a freak out one day did a severe calorie restriction for a week or two (not even 1000 a day), then I tried to keep it around 1200-1400. Of course, after all that pain and hunger, I've gained a pound
Which is why I'm here. I'm tired of starving and being grouchy just to gain weight.
I've gone to scooby's and got all my TDEE numbers, and I'm attempting to eat about 1850-1900 calories a day now. I do Insanity 6 days a week BTW.
So, do I really need to do the reset where you eat at your full TDEE (mine would be 2374)? Or, is it still productive to start in at TDEE-20% (mine is 1899). Honestly, I'm terrified to eat 2374. Since I don't have a significant amount to lose, do you think I'll still have success doing TDEE-20% without the metabolism reset?
Thanks all.

Honestly the less you have to lose the smaller the percent deficit should be. You probably shouldn't go near TDEE-20%, maybe 10%.
Back to your original question, the reset question really depends on your body. If you go up to TDEE-% and nothing happens you'll probably need to reset. Honestly, I think it is a good idea for most people. It lets your body heal, both in the tissues and with the metabolism.
You will need to be mentally ready for the journey; it is the hardest part. Keep thinking it through and reading the information on this board. When you are ready, you'll feel ready to take the plunge.0 -
That makes sense, thank you. I was actually considering doing a -10% instead of -20%. Which would be 2136 calories a day. I could easily do it, since I'm a nut/avocado/PB junkie! I had been cutting out most of these high calorie but healthy foods because it wasn't "worth it" before. I'm just scared. I've struggled with eating issues for years, which is why I'm so hesitant. Maybe I could bump up to 2140 a day and see how it goes. It can't go worse than it was! And honestly, since I've slowly started bumping up calories, I feel smaller and tighter and less bloated with more energy!0

Wow, I could have written exactly that about me! My full TDEE is 2392, but since I started 4 weeks ago I've eaten at 1900. In those weeks I've put on 3 pounds taking me up to 132, which I'm trying really hard not to stress about. Going to give it 2 more weeks and seek out further advice. Like you, was scared to go to TDEE, when this time last year, 1200 felt like too much and I would try, and often succeed at eating less, despite a lot of exercise. Just wanted to say hello, and let you know you're not alone in feeling like this. I've read so many success stories that I'm determined to stick to a higher calorie amount, just want to see a weight loss soon! Diary is open if you want to see how my days look.0
