Terrible W5D1 Run Last Night!

I worked out a little too much on Sunday and Monday - which has led to me dragging butt all week. I had a terrible day at work yesterday and felt exhausted (like I needed a rest day). I decided just to push through and run anyway.
It was awful! I couldn't finish the runs (even with a super slow pace) and even the walking felt taxing. Mentally, I just wasn't in it. Sometimes, I think it really is best to take the day off and rest if you really feel like you need it!
I'll be doing my circuit workout tonight and repeating that run tomorrow. Wish me luck!
ETA: I also had nagging pain in my left shin throughout the run/walk yesterday. Other than rest and icing, any suggestions for keeping that at bay in the future? This was a first.

Great attitude! You'll do great tomorrow.
I find that if I'm tired I have a hard time jogging. My weekday workouts are quite different than my weekend ones.
As a recent graduate of the program, I find that on the weekend, I can jog 5K; during the week, I can't quite make it. I'm less rested, have more on my mind, am short of time, etc. While these are excuses they are also realities. I don't use the excuse to not exercise but realize that it affects my workout a bit so I try to find a work-around. I use weekdays to work on my endurance (add incline to the treadmill) and speed & don't worry about the distance; I don't, though, cut short my workout time. That remains the same.
You can do this and you will succeed with the program. Do the best you can and don't give up. You've got what it takes.0 -

When I struggle with shin pain, I will do exercises where I raise my legs out (in a seated position), point my toes and "trace" the whole alphabet (uppercase) with my toes. It seems to help a bunch.
(ETA) I try to do those several times, daily.
You may also be due for a new pair of shoes if it's been awhile.0 -
It sounds like you were just tired. Rest up and do it again. Even experienced runners have days like this.0

Happy to report that I'm back on track! I rested (from running, not working out) for 4 days, iced my shin several times and got a compression sleeve (which works awesome!). I also am going to stop doing the treadmill unless I absolutely can't get in a run another way - outside was so much more motivating! I am repeating week 5, but W5D2 felt great today!0
