So my ultra-sound for my leg is on Wednesday, and in light of my birthday in 2 weeks I have signed up for my first 5k! Yes, I know the two are nothing related....oh well. Ha!
But yes, I have signed up for my first offical 5K. I couldn't hold off until April 5th. I am ready, I know I am ready. I completed 3 miles last week. It is all mental now. I know I can run 3.1 miles, I have done it.
I am terrified. I have no idea what to expect. Will I do good? Will I do bad? Will my leg hold up? We shall see.
Wish me luck.

You will do GREAT!
I hope your leg is fine, but you seem to have a handle on running through your issue (and I hope the ultra-sound gives a clear and accurate picture of what is going on).
Think about it this way - no matter what happens, you will have accomplished a new "personal record"0 -
Oh, yes! Of course they are related!
Congrats on signing up. When is your race?0 -
March 23....on my birthday
And I can't wait.0 -
That's awesome!! Good luck! Just don't give up and do what you can. My first 5K was tough but I stuck with it and I"m proud I can't wait to do more this year.0

I just ran one yesterday and finished MUCH faster than I would have thought possible. I train at around 13min/mile and finished the race closer to 12 min/mil (38:49.)
The adrenaline and crowd really do help you. Good luck!0 -
That is awesome, Bostonwolf. I realized about halfway through my 5k yesterday that if you wait to sign up until you're ready, you'll never be ready. You just need to accept the fatigue, etc, and prove to yourself that you can do it. However, I'm not going to do a 10k until I'm under a 10 minute mile. I just don't feel like slogging through an hour long run right now0

My nerves keep creeping up. I clocked my 3.1 at 39:12 yesterday. I honestly don't care about the time, I just want to finish strong without having walked any bit of it. But, March 23rd is coming up fast. Did I mention I will be 30! And for my birthday I am running....oh my what am I doing? lol0

I couldn't even DO 3.1 last Thursday by myself. You are going to be so awesome!
Make sure you list out all the reasons why you should just stop, drop out or walk so that you can cover them efficiently during the first mile (LOL). That way you can be sure and have fun for the rest of the race.0 -
Finished my first 5K yesterday with a time of 35:40!
The feeling I had passing up people who took off in a sprint at the beginning was something I don't think I can explain. It was bitter sweet I guess. One part of me wanted to slow down and encourage them to keep going, the other part of me wanted to see how far ahead of them I could get. I did end up running along side some guy who stopped to walk only about 1000 feet from the water station. I jogged with him until there and then let him go on his own.0 -
Wow! What at a time! Happy birthday!!!0

That's awesome - congrats!!0 -
Awesome job! Did you find that the race made you run faster? You just did 5K at 39:12 before the race and then shaved almost 4 whole minutes off that. That is awesome!! Congrats0

Definitely can go faster race day. With all the adrenaline pumping and people at the finish line cheering you on, you can't help but give it your all. Plus, anytime I would see someone walking I would speed up slightly to catch them and pass them, hehe.0

I know. There was this one lady who was walking/running at my 5k. I couldn't find her after but I wanted to tell her that, if she slowed up just a bit she could have run the whole way.0
