Need some encouragment

Hi All,

After having initial success at raising my TDEG from 1200 to 1600 (early Jan 2013) and loosing weight, I then started to gain weight. This suggested that my BMR had lowered and that I needed to do the full reset and get my metabolism working properly again.

So that is what I’ve been doing for the last two months. I’ve been gradually increasing my calories to get to my correct TDEE and am now finally getting used to eating this much and enjoying being able to relax with my food a bit. Although, in saying this, I have still been keeping within macros – 30 protein, 30 fat, and 40 carbs. I have also been focussing on doing less cardio (usually mainly doing more walking now and only one HIIT a week) and am trying to lift heavy at least twice a week. For the last two weeks I’ve finally been able to get myself eating at TDEE (approx. 2300, but this fluctuates as I use a fitbit to monitor my calories used).

So I guess in terms of my rest progress I am doing well, but psychologically I am started to doubt whether I am doing the right thing. I just got on the scales today to do my weekly weigh in and I’ve put on another kilo. Since I started the reset I have gained 4 kilos (9 pounds). I’m only a couple kilos away from my starting weight!!! I know it is not a ridiculous amount of weight in the grand scheme of things, but it is so hard to see the scale move in the opposite direction so consistently when what you want is the opposite. And now I’ve finally got to eating TDEE I’m scared that I will just continue gaining weight.

I am measuring as well and I am getting bigger all over.. Although, I think the weight lifting has helped my body to stay in an ‘ok’ish shape and clothes don’t feel ridiculously tight (but definitely tighter). Also, I have noticed my rings are getting very tight! Is this a sign of water retention or just the weight gain?

So my main reason for posting is to ask people who have done the reset, when I can expect to start maintaining at TDEE and can start cutting again? What was everyone else’s experience with this? I don’t know how much longer I can wait!

I guess I would just like some more assurance that I am on the right track and that I WILL be able to loose the weight eventually!
I would REALLY appreciate your advice and reassurance.

Thanks!

I don't have the answers you are looking for, but it sounds to me like you are doing the right thing! It's probably very frustrating waiting for your weight to level out so you can cut! Is it possible your TDEE is too high?? Just smile :) positive thoughts, body follows! Xo

    Thanks Micaela!

As to TDEE amount, I have been wondering the same thing, except I have been basing my calories on my fitbit (which is meant to be pretty accurate right?)
