I am looking to get a punching bag this weekend for Muay Thai. Does anyone have any recommendations as to brand or size? I think i will go with a "banana bag" instead of the standard punching bag, but I imagine there is more to it than that...? thanks!

Banana bags can be a bit pricey if you buy them stuffed. Try and find an empty bag, waaay cheaper. Then just stuff it with whatever you got around; old clothes, newspapers, etc.0

really? you can do that? wow, thanks!0

The handles are good to simulate clinch, and the extra padding at the body for knees and rounds0 -
That's actually a pretty good price for a bag. Although the s&h is almost as much as the bag itself!! Best to see if you have a sport's authority near you.I've always liked:

Well my husband picked one up for my birthday as a surprise. It wasn't banana bag, just a standard 70 lb Everlast. It should do the job for now. Do you guys have any suggestions about drills? I figured i would just copy drills we've done in training, but would like some sort of routine for drills. Sounds silly but i'm not that creative outside of jab, cross, hook, kick and knee...lol0

If you can find an audio version of the BAS RUTTEN workout...it's actually pretty good. I HATE shadowboxing, or just static drills on the bag. I find it boring. In the tapes, he yells out combos for you to hit. 2 minute and 3 minute rounds. Not bad, if you need the extra motivation0

Def find it easier at Sports Authority and/or ****s. or try to find "free shipping" coupons online0 -
so I just did my first work out on the bag, and it was a bit all over the place. I'm def. going to check out that audio, I need the direction, and I always loose count...lol...Thanks so much!0

hey my partner and I are looking at getting a bag as well, this will be in a basement area of our house. do you guys have any floor padding under/around the bag ? at the moment it is bare concrete floor. I just worry about the jarring impact this may have on knee joints etc0

My husband put down a mat for underneath. I figured if i am just doing the heavy bag, i'll do it barefoot (mat). But I usually lift and run on the treadmill, so i'll have shoes on (no mat). I would say if you are wearing shoes, don't use a mat, your shoes will tear up the mat. If you are just punching, then there really isn't too much of a knee impact, so it doesn't matter there isn't a mat on the floor (?) ...lol...Let me know how it goes! I love my bag, but it's a lot harder than i thought it would be!0 -
thanks Betsy !
Will probably be barefoot, will be doing kicks and punches ! my partner and I have recently started going to Muay Thai classes together ., omg does it kick my *kitten* but I love it !
I still struggle with my roundhouse kicks, but I am getting there. Just find it hard with the whole balance, throw the hips kind of thing.
I think having an office job has caused my muscles to be tight and weak in the wrong places so I am doing more stretches when I get home.
But it is a lot of fun !0
