Calf Raises

This is one of the hardest things for me to do. I usually just skip them and just do the lunge or squat without them. I always lose my balance and shake like crazy.

And have you ever noticed that when Janelle does them, she gets all the way up on her toes like a ballet dancer. I wonder if she was one...

I don't like combining calf raises with the sumo squat especially. Some combinations require so much balance that I would be better doing the moves separately and doing them more effectively. I do them as best I can for these workouts but still feel like something gets lost when trying to combine too much into one exercise move.

I'm the same way. I think I can do a more effective calf raise keeping my legs closer together.

I just experienced this yesterday in Burn Circuit 3 (first time doing CLX). It was very awkward and I was shakey and off balance too. I agree that doing them separately is probably more effective. Some exercises in other programs are so awkward, I just do what I think compares to ensure I'm hitting the right area effectively rather than trying to do some acrobatic move and not properly.

For some of the moves with calf raises, I just alternate legs. It's easier for me to keep my balance. The ones in Lean 1, though? With the bicep curls? Forgettaboutit.

Those were so challenging last week. I'm up on my toes long before my curl is complete. Hard to keep the same pace.

Yes I'm reading Chalene's book and she said growing up Janelle went to ballet practice everyday until her feet bled.

I skip the calve raises because they feel awkward, I lose my balance, and don't care about toning my calves.

It just occurred to me that I have always walked on my toes naturally -- so whenever I'm without shoes, I'm already working my calves. Of course, I'm not generally carrying dumbbells in my hand at the same time.
