2nd Week on the Primal Diet

Hi,

I am really enjoying using the primal blueprint diet.
I have recently increased by calories to 2900 and macros of 45% fat, 30 protien and 25 carbs.
First week was a little struggle adjusting to it. I was really tried the first few days due to the lack of carbs., Now I have adjusted to it. My next challenge is to adjust to no more dairy. I have replaced milk with almond milk which is quite good.
My major one will be stopping eating cheese and yogurt.

Does anyone on the diet still eat cheese? I am wanting to be really strict and stick with what the book says.

Also, what do you guys have for breakfast.
I used to eat cereals but have stopped this and replaced with steak.
However, I can not eat steak every morning.

    I could be wrong, but I think the Primal diet includes dairy, doesn't it? Its the Paleo diet that cuts it out.

    And breakfast - I eat leftovers from dinner the night before, or eggs and bacon or ham, someitmes I'll cook up some chicken breast, it really just depends on what I have in my fridge.

    Hi. Glad to hear you're enjoying it.

    I still eat cheese. I have tried to give it up when doing a whole30 but my motivation wasn't there and it's just soooo good. I've just accepted it. Most people think of Primal as allowing dairy. Even though Sisson's cook book has no dairy, he's a little more lenient about it than some of the other paleo thought leaders.

    Breakfast:
    Pastured eggs. Almost every day. Fried in coconut oil with a slice of cheese and sometimes a slice of applegate farms ham.

    Soups. I like eating soup for breakfast. It's warm and filling. Lots of cultures around the world eat soup in the morning. I make my own variation of miso soup with homemade chicken or beef stock, white miso paste, and I drop a scrambled egg in it like egg drop soup. Or, I've made ginger zucchini soup which is amazing. Butternut squash curry soup with bacon. Yum.

    You can make or buy paleo "granola" which is basically nuts. I'm not a huge fan... It is not very filling for the calories.

    crustless quiche muffins. These freeze well

    leftover dinner :-)

    One thing to be careful of is carrageenan,this is found on most almond milks and is used as a substitute for gelatin.
    It's a pretty scary additive.Here is some more info about it here

    This is only one of numerous articles out there talking about it's dangers.
    As for breakfast,I eat lots of eggs.There are lots of great recipe sites out there that will give you loads of ideas.I also eat leftovers for breakfast.Most people stop thinking about meals as they are thought of in SAD,instead,meals just become meals,people eat whatever they like no matter what time of the day.

    My breakfasts are a little wonky. I try to be at work by 6:30am so it needs to be something portable and easy - normally, it consists of 1/2 avocado, a handful of cherry/grape tomatoes, and a few slices of pre-cooked bacon (or deli ham if I've been lazy and haven't cooked bacon - I know it probably isn't paleo/primal but it's protein and easy).

    I still eat cheese, but only on occasion and on a very limited basis.

    If you tolerate dairy just fine and enjoy consuming it, why would you eliminate the stuff? Full fat organic dairy (raw if you can get it) is a great thing to have in your diet.

    Primal does allow for dairy. I just made a primal moussaka recipe last night from Mark Sisson's website that included dairy (greek yogurt, and parmesan was optional)

    Breakfast: Bulletproof coffee these days. In the past I've enjoyed eggs and bacon, with some sort of veggies. Veggie/egg/protein scrambles or omelettes, sweet potato hash, smoothies with raw eggs/spinach/avocado/coconut milk/berries...i often have a handful of whatever berries I found at the famer's market or store, with a little splash of coconut milk on top as a side to whatever eggs/protein/veggie breakfast I have.

    Leftovers are great too!

    I've even been known to have a lettuce wrapped burger sometimes...

    I only eat breakfast a few times per week. When I make primal food choices I wake up well rested and still satisfied from the night before. I drink coffee in the morning though. I start getting hungry around 10 and often eat an early lunch.

    If I eat breakfast it is always scrambled eggs.

    I use a paleo/primal version of the Clean & Lean diet plan (which is almost primal anyway). These are some of my breakfasts:

    Lean sausages, grilled tomatoes & mushrooms
    Lean (English) bacon, poached egg and mushrooms
    Ham & mushroom or grilled vegatable 2-egg omeltte
    Cold sliced chicken with green beans and balsamic vinegar
    2 Hard boiled eggs
    Ham and avocado slices
    Strawberries / mixed berries
    Cottage cheese on rice cakes (especially when PMSing)
    Cold cubes of pork steak with seasoning.

    and I love this a cereal replacment- apple and carrot 'salad' - with or without full fat greek yogurt
    - 3 grated carrots and 2 grated apples (without skin- you can munch that seperatly, I always do)
    - Small handful of sultanas- Sprinkling of cnnamon
    - Mix toegther in a tupperware tub, leave over night -and the flavours develop and the sultanas will go all juicy.

    This makes about 4 servings (for me). Most times I add 2 desrtspoons of greek yougurt on top. It looks a bit like coldslaw when you add the greek yoghurt!
  • I eat all that others have mentioned but I also like paleo pancakes made with almond flour. Today I made spinach pancakes I adapted from other pancake recipies along with liversausage and tomatoes. Yum!

    I still eat dairy, but try to monitor my cheese intake mostly because of sodium levels. I replaced half and half with heavy whipping cream in my coffee, and eat full fat greek yogurts, kefirs, etc. I'm not a huge breakfast eater, but I like to make up breakfast patties of either ground turkey or beef that are easy to reheat and top with an egg. I also like to have roasted beets around, too.

    Breakfast - 1 cup black coffee
    No dairy for me. Meat, meat w/ a side of meat. I do still drink beer (not gluten free).

    I eat eggs with veggies and sausage or bacon and sometimes fruit. I also eat cold salami, cheese and nuts if I'm in a hurry. Also I sometimes eat leftovers from last night's dinner. One way to get the eggs, sausage and veggies is to make Sausage Breakfast Bites from marksdailyapple.com which is like a convenience food you make and keep in the fridge.

    My only dairy now is a bit of butter on veggies and sweet potato, and the rare Parmesan cheese. Breakfast is usually bacon and eggs or nuts and berries. Sometimes eggs and beef.

    Today I'm going for a $3.14 pizza for Pi day and see if that price includes the gluten free crust :) I'm sure I'll feel the effects of the crust and ounce of cheese, but I was down to 115.6lbs the other day (goal was 120) so what the hell :D
