ladies who lift weights?

Hello ladies..or gentlemen who know weight lifting ladies... i have been "reluctantly" lifting girly weihts for a few years now and i am currently doing the p90 x lean version and switching over to classic. I want to build some lean muscle mass. My hubby went into a fitness related field so i understtand that i will not bulk up as i lift heavier weihts...but i still have this little fear in the back of my mind. Can anyone share their heavy weight lifting results? Its always reassuring to hear from experienced fitness divas. :) either way...im upping my weigts...time to get ripped ;)

I lift heavy. I've been doing so since last May, although not as serious and often until last Sept. I highly recommend New Rules of Lifting for Abs or Supercharged. Many recommend NROL for Women, but many of the exercises have been updated in Abs and Supercharged.

And for reference, here is a pic of my back. The one on the left is from Jan 2013, size 6 ~170 lb and the one on the right is before I ever did strength training. I was ~185 lbs and a size 12.

Wow!! Great job! It is so encouraging to see someone with such great results. Can I ask how tall you are? And also, I'm assuming you eat more to weight less as well?

I'm 5'11". When I was trying to lose weight I was eating around 2600-2800 calories. Now that I'm maintaining I exercise less (2-3 days vs 5 days) and eat 2400-2600 calories a day.

Thanks for the response! Wow! I'm 5'9" so I always like to ask about height, being a bit taller. Good for you! I'm very encouraged by your results. You worked hard, and that is always amazing to see.

One more thing...can u define lifting heavy? I currently curl 10lbs, bench press about 40 lbs and squat around 50 when i am just lifting at the gym rather than doing the p90x workouts.

I am 5'8 and lift heavy also. Lifting heavy for me means out of say 3 sets, the 1st is at 80%, the 2nd is at 90% and the 3rd is to failure - meaning lots of grunting to get the last 3-4 reps out. Once you get into it you will find your max weight.

Lifting heavy has to do with how many reps you can do. In a general sense 4-6 reps is heavy lifting. Usually when I can lift more than 7 reps cleanly, then I move up in weight. How much weight you lift will vary by person and their own strength.

Wonderful! Thank you, ladies, for the response! :)@Mummyadams, have you also had good results lifting heavy in this way? I have always done 3 reps of 12-15.

Hi, yes I have. I combine lifting with crossfit with the occasional bootcamp thrown in. Also follow (80%) Paleo diet.
