I wanted 10 miles for my last long run before the half on Sunday (no taper, not for time, only 17 days to train).
I started out running in some drizzle, felt good. Was in long sleeve and shorts.
It dried up which was nice, kept on going, wind was in my face, not a big deal, it meant that at my turn around it would be behind me, and it did help.
Mile 6 happened, and the skies opened up, but still it wasn't as bad as I thought....mile 7 I could swear it was hailing, that crap HURT when it hit me. The wind started changing direction and the temperature dropped by a LOT!
By mile 8 it was so cold my muslces said, "You know what? Let's stop...just go again another day." Trouble was I was a mile before my home.
My feet were freezing, they were soaked and it felt like bricks going up that last hill towards home.
I wanted 10, weather said 9. Hopefully that'll be enough, I'm pretty sure it will be. I'm not going for any sort of pace this time out, it's just for fun. But this was the first time I'd experienced such a wide variation of weather on one run.
Ended up 1:31:04 for a 10:07 mpm pace, which I was okay with. Mile 8 and 9 11:09 and 11:20 respectively LOL
So what's your crazy weather story??

Let's see, this was in December. It was storming with pouring rain the entire week leading up to this trail race I was doing. It was so bad that the race organizers were required to re-route the course because the state park pulled their permit at the last minute and they had to stick to the national recreation area.
The day of the race the start/finish area was a mud pit. It was "just" raining when we started. By mile 3 it was like that scene in Forrest Gump where Captain Dan is on the boat shaking his fist in the air yelling "You call this a storm?". Words can't describe what a mess the trail conditions were in. It was like running in miles and miles of chocolate pudding except you are doing it with a ton of steep ascents and descents. Seeing someone slide right past you doing 360s on their behinds was a fairly common occurrence.
Did I mention this was an ultra of the 50 mile variety? I've run in some gnarly weather conditions. I've been hailed on, rained on and been in wind that blows down trees but nothing prepared me for that experience. So yeah, that's my crazy weather story.0 -
Sheesh!!! That's crazy!
It's supposed to rain for the trail race on Saturday for me....and my half on Sunday
The trail will be interesting, but it's only like 3.2 or 3.50
