Day 2, Just Checking In

Hello, All,

Today is the end of Day 2, and I think I'm doing OK. I've been under 20g net carbs both days, so that's good. :-). I am feeling a bit headachy, so I'm wondering if I'm going into Ketosis a bit earlier than I expected. Last time around it hit me Wednesday night. I'm hoping to be through it by Thursday. I'm working on the assumption that, because I've done some exercise this time around, I'm burning some of my carb stores more quickly, which will lead to ketosis more quickly. Just a guess.

I was wondering, how many of stayed in induction for 2 weeks, and how many longer? When I was doing this before, I stayed in induction for 4 weeks, and then up to 25 g of carb for 4, etc. I really don't have a plan for this time around, but will probably add the carbs back in slowly (look at me, day 2 of induction, and I'm already planning OWL!!!) :-).

I've noticed myself looking at the calorie meter on the tracker. I need to remind myself that I can eat more with a low-carb approach, and that if I concentrate on the carbs, the calories will take care of themselves.

I think I'm going to watch "FATHEAD" this weekend for inspiration :-).

OK, I'm starting to free-associate now, so I'll sign off. I look forward to any tips the veterans may have to share :-)

Have an awesome day, all!

Tom

 Tom, nothing wrong with planning ahead!

Do you ever use ketostix? I sometimes do, although I can tell when I'm in. I try not to rely on them too much because the readings vary based on what I’ve eaten, time of day, etc.

The longest I've stayed on induction was about 2 months and by that time I was so into the groove that I didn't feel the need to add in additional carbs. I've known some people who stayed on longer, until they got closer to their goal weight. I'm not on induction, but eat about 25-30g carbs typically. Whenever a plateau would set in (no loss for 2+ weeks), then I would do a 2-3 day fat fast. Agree about not worrying about the cals, focus on the carbs and fiber. I also look at the fat, because I personally lose better when I’m at a higher percentage. It goes against everything I was taught, but we all know that fat doesn’t make you fat!

Good idea for inspiration, whatever works to help keep you focused.

Have a great day and keep us posted on your progress!
  • Just wanted to follow up. I got some Kentone Test strips at the store today, and just tested. I'm not feeling headachy anymore, and I'm officially in ketosis. The strip turned a nice dark pottery brown color, corresponding to "40" on the side of the box. Sorry if that's TMI!.

It's never TMI when it comes to Ketostix Tom, glad you're feeling better and in ketosis. I'm registering in the mid-range as I started to lower my carbs a couple of days ago.
