My Journey One Letter at a Time

It occurred to me last night that I can describe my journey in a series of 3 letter words by changing one letter at a time:
FIT – or at least what I thought I was FIT running several miles a day, wearing a size 0 only muscle I was carrying was in my legs.
FAT – After 6 months of hormone shots, I gained around 60 lbs. At first it didn’t bother me because everyone was saying that I looked better with a little weight. But a little weight became a lot of FAT.
FAD – I tried every diet FAD out there. Atkins (which made my immune system crash and I became very sick), Weight Watchers, Liquid diets, Detox diets, Diet pills (which I went to a weight loss clinic so silly me thought they were safe), Lipo shots, Fasting you name it. I was still maintaining what I believed then as a very active lifestyle: waiting tables, chasing toddlers and walking.
MAD – I became so MAD by this helpless state I was in, I gave up. This must be the way it is going to be.
HAD – My mom had an aneurism that turned in to a valve, stem and root replacement. They think she had a mini stroke during recovery. The Dr. walked out of surgery and told my sisters it was genetic condition and for us to get our weights under control NOW. We needed to get healthy if we were ever going to have a chance at overcoming a heart condition. So now I have HAD it.
HAT - I tried going at alone, VCLD and a lot of exercise. I was gaining. I was so frustrated. Then a friend said talk to my wife she know the RIGHT way to do it. She can tell you all about it. So Anitra tells me about MFP and EM2WL and tells me about her story (that I hope everyone has read on the EM2WL website!) I decide I will throw my HAT in with this group, what did I have to lose?
EAT - Now I EAT more than I ever did. I can’t say that I am losing a lot of weight; 15 lbs in 6 months. But I have lost inches and I have muscles! I am lifting 3 times a week. I am also training for a grueling 5 mile run that starts at the bottom of a mountain and ends at the top. I will turn 30 this year and this is a gift I am giving to myself. I have already received the gift of a better lifestyle thanks to the support of my husband, wonderful family, Kiki, Lucia, Anitra and all my inspiring MFP friends. It just shows how far you can go and what you can achieve with the right knowledge, support and determination.
