Hey low carbers! What's the best way to decrease body fat while doing a keto diet? Cardio or weights or both? I did both this week but just wondering if I should be favoring one or the other.

Thanks!

neither. The low carb gurus like Taubes and Phimney/ Volek identify that exercise may actually slow your metabolism. Nutrition drives weight loss; exercise drives fitness.

Strength training is better for reshaping your body so if you have to pick one, I'd go with that.

This has been playing on my mind a bit as going to the gym is quite a big part of life but I really don't want to make my weight loss any harder than it already is. I thought from all the websites I've researched that it was possible to maintain and exercise routine while in keto but I do trust Taubes/

Dont really know what to do now. Especially as I have a 12 month gym membership

Oh that sucks! I just started a 30 day free trial at snap fitness. It looks like now my time there will be devoted to mainly weights.

I don't think it impacts your ketosis. And truly, fitness is important too.

Phinney / Volek in "The Art and Science of Low Crbohydrate Living" identify that when heavy people exercise regularly, their resting metabolism slows by 5-15%.

That's why I think moderate strength training might be good. Reshape the body, but don't good crazy with it.

I am a fan of weight training and usually do body pump 3 -4 times a week. Thing is I find the cardio classes more fun and would be gutted to give them up.

That be said, I doubt the odd zumba or combat class is going to do me that much harm

You gotta make this lifestyle something you can enjoy and live with.

Here's what they conclude on exercise.
"Let heavy people try carbohydrate restriction first (which most do without resorting to heavy exercise), and then let them decide when to become more active once they are empowered, energized, and lighter of foot."

I think think the message is... If you want to and feel up to it, great. But don't feel you have to in order to be successful.

what do they say about people who need to lose about 30lbs, which is where I'm at? I honestly love to workout and feel more tired and grumpy if I can't get my morning workout in. Hate to give up cardio but I will work primarily on weights.
