I've created a running schedule with the Runner's World smartcoach program.
It has things like Easy Run with a goal distance and pace. Or Speed Intervals all laid out on a map.
It all feels a little to rigid for me but I want to get better. So I'm using the following articles to help me understand how to use this schedule in conjunction with my own awareness of my training needs.

Essentially, I'm using the smartcoach schedule as a general guide and when it says "easy run" then I'm going to run what feels like "easy" that day. When it has me doing speedwork, I'm probably going to do fartleks if I'm outside and whatever interval it has down when I'm inside. I'm going to do whatever mileage it has me down for as well. I'll reassess where I am by the end of the program.

I am slowly increasing my total milage per week. I want to get up to 20-30 miles a week. I am shifting to that plan next week. Next week it looks like this:
0 2 1 0 2 0 3 for a total of 8, in three weeks I increase by 3 miles. So it will look like this instead:
0 3 1 0 3 0 4 for a total of 11. I have read, and been total by my cousins who are ultras, that to focus on getting my base milage up then to redirect to speed work.0 -
Sounds like an awesome plan. Do you think you'd be interested in doing an ultra eventually?0

Hahaha! Not looking at that yet. My cousins have been running for 20+ years...I have to conquer the 10K first lol.0
