Ive noticed alot of you guys do ohp standing and ive never done it before so i gave it a try today. HOLy crap do those tax your core. Do you guys do a seated ohp to finish delts off or what cuz i feel like my delts can handle more but my lower back and core are limiting it, also was wondering if you should stager your feet or stay square, i could move more weight with the stagered stance i noticed but it was because of a hip drive

If you're using a staggered stance it's not an OHP, is a "push press." Push press definitely allows you to move more weight, for the reasons you mentioned.
As far as what you "should" do, if your goal is shoulder strength, I would go with OHP. Although, I supposed mixing in the push press could push your top numbers on the OHP up.
If your core is a limiting factor, use a belt for your heavy sets.0 -
I do Wendler 5/3/1 for OHP and as accessories I do incline dumbbell press and side lateral raises. That hits the delts pretty hard for that day. And then on bench day I do incline dumbbell press again as an accessory lift.
I stay square and back straight/core tight with as little hip swing as possible. Core work will help improve this lift but this lift also improves core strength. When I started doing this lift it was so awkward I was doing my set with just the bar. Improvements came quickly though.0 -
do you think there better than seated presses? i usualy do DB Presses can use double the weight when seated. ive always been taught more weight through full rom = more mass/strength0

I think seated is better for isolating the lift from your core but one of the big reasons to do standing OHP is BECAUSE it is a whole body lift.0 -

Ok, well I feel like an idiot. It was not till I saw this thread that it ever occurred to me if I should be doing OHP seated or standing. I am just so used to doing them seated that I never paid attention that the StrongLifts program which I'm doing calls for the exercise to be standing...duh! I am not starting over!:laugh:0

Isn't the difference between a push press and an OHP whether or not you bounce at the knee, not where your feet are placed?0 -

As a general exercise I prefer OHP over seated for this reason. I'm generally looking for whole body work and not isolation. Pretty much goal dependent.0 -
