Primal/paleo win?

Wondering if this was a luck thing or if primal/paleo explains it better...I think I know the answer but I would love to hear what you all think....
So, this past Sunday I decided to run a half marathon with my hubby. It was his first...I have a few under my belt as well as one marathon (so far). Here's the kicker, I hadn't trained for this half- at all. I had run three times (no more than 6 miles in each) in the last 2 1/2 months..the last run being about 3 weeks before the race. My last 1/2 marathon was in October last year and I had problems with fascittis after that so I pretty much stopped any regular running. Okay...so fast forward to this past Sunday. I ran the whole thing (no walking) with the hubs...kept it at a 11:55/mi avg pace and we finished together. The last two days there has been some minor soreness in my quads and I got a couple of nasty blisters because my shoes weren't properly broken in beforehand...but that's it. I felt great during the run...never crashed or even considered stopping. Never even felt winded.
Contrast this to the very first time I ran that particular 1/2 (my first 1/2 ever, back in 2010). I ran 10 miles and then felt like I couldn't go any further without walking a bit so i alternated walking/running for the last few miles. Finished, but just barely.
I have been primal (or paleo with some dairy) since October last year. For the last couple of months I have been making and consuming bone broth daily (I'm addicted to it now). Does this explain this past Sunday's seemingly effortless run or did I just get lucky (it was St. Patrick's Day and I am Irish  )
What do my fellow primalist/paleoist MFP'ers think?

Oh, and yes...I know it was probably stupid to run the 1/2 in such a severely undertrained state with new shoes BUT I wanted to support the hubby....0

Well, I surely don't know the answer to your question, but a big high five from me! WTG! St. Patty''s Day can make us do some pretty silly things but yours wasn't one of them. I take it you've been doing some cross-training but just not running? I mean, I ran a peasly three miles with a friend a couple of weeks ago just for the heck of it and probably could have gone longer, and I haven't run in a couple of years, but I think anyone who is in decent shape could do that. But not a half marathon!0

I have done several of the strength training p90x workouts and I probably hit the plyometrics dvd twice but that's it. Not much cardio at all. With the better eating I have certainly noticed that I retain muscle much longer without having to workout as often so maybe I just retained enough muscle???0

I think it was a combination of paleo and your previous training. Sure you haven't trained regularly, and maybe b/c of the paleo lifestyle, you've maintained your body's ability to do a hard workout (as a long distance runner, a half marathon is hard work) even if you thought it was easy. In Mark's book, he says that being primal and following it appropriately and doing regular exercise in general will help you knock out an endurance event without training. I specifically remember that b/c I was shocked that he would say something like that and skeptical that it could actually be true. You just proved it to be true.0
