Decisions, decisions, decisions

Every person is different and each situation is different. How will I know what's right for me? I feel like there is always a reason to not do this, but there are reasons to not do almost everything in life.

You need only to do what you know is right for you. I waited for nearly 3 years from the time I first consulted with surgeon to my next visit when I had decided to commit to having a VSG. That was not the procedure the DR thought was best choice for me but I knew that I could do it.

I put off surgery for a long time, because it was such a major change. I tried everything else to lose the weight, and it just wasn't going to happen any other way. In the mean time, the clock was ticking. I was getting older, had developed diabetes, and the choice for surgery was a lot more clear. I wish I had done it sooner, but hindsight always works that way.

As for what sort of surgery, I kicked around the options as if I really undrrstood what the differences were. That was where I finally listened to the surgeon and accepted his recommendation. They know a lot more about it than the most educated among us. I'm glad I listened, and had RNY just over seven months ago.

When the arthritis in my hips became so bad that I was in constant pain, I decided it was time. It took me several years to get there, but now I wish I had done it ten years ago!

Do what you feel is right for you. The surgery is life-changing in so many ways, but it is very do-able!
