Boxing workout & tired! More carbs needed?

Anyone here boxing as their workout? I have been eating primal now for about a week and a half, so I am kinda new to all this. I didn't eat totally crappy before, but probably had more carbs than I am getting now. Before I went to my boxing class I used to eat a home made rasin bran muffin, today I ate 2 eggs, ham, and 2 clementines. Which is similar to what I have been eating a lot of in the mornings since begining this. I noticed though today I didn't seem to have my usual stamina in class. I was pretty wiped out about halfway though. Any suggestions as to how to give myself a carb boost to see if that helps? I know grains are not reccomended, but was wondering if steel cut oats would be all bad or should I eat a sweet potato? Any suggestions? I'm tired!

sorry, you are just in the first stage of sugar withdrawal . I suppose you could add some sweet potato, but I would wait a couple weeks and just power through it. I did kickboxing and heavy resistance training along with sprinting cardio all while keeping my carbs around 40 for about 3 months.
I don't think it is your workout - it is your body changing fuel sources. Give it a week at least.0 -

Exactly this! It will get better!0 -
Some people need more carbs. I get mad when people think Paleo is low-carb. It isn't! Eat an apple with some almond butter too, or a banana for some potassium, or make a nice sweet potato hash with veggies. All of those are great and perfectly Paleo. I like to eat about 100 carbs a day and spread them out so that I don't get a sugar rush at one meal.
However, it WILL be the hardest at the beginning no matter what you do. You might need to push through it. But if it's not better by next week than don't blame yourself. You're not doing something wrong, your body just requires more carbs to feel good. There's nothing wrong with that.0 -

Utter, utter brilliance - I love this. Seriously.
OP, I would absolutely suggest more carbs should you feel you're lacking in energy. Steel cut oats?... Not so much. I treat myself to rolled oats very rarely and - as a coeliac, so it may just be me - get a weird reaction of no sleep, well, less sleep than usual. And they're "not Paleo". Sweet potato? Absolutely. Those things are delicious.0 -
I read a post on here a while ago with a response from a marathon runner who eats paleo. It recommended to carb load on sweet potatoes and other paleo sources of carbs the night before a heavy workout (or run). Personally I struggle with what to eat pre-workout as everything makes me want to puke, but the best I've found so far is a handful of nuts and black coffee a half hour prior. Experiment and see what works for you. I have tried adding back in some grains a few times - yesterday I had buckwheat and spelt flour ricotta pancakes for breakfast and they made no difference to my stamina this morning at all. In fact, if anything my run this morning was the hardest 4k I have done in a long time!0
