Hi

I am new to EMTWL, but I am on my fourth week of upping calories; I was eating 1500 cals for my first two weeks, 1600 last week and this week I am up to 1700. My tde is 1820 - 1880 depending on the calculators I have used. I wasn't on a super low calorie diet for that long - just about 6 weeks, but I have been a yo-yo dieter for a couple of years. I am working up to do a reset; next week I would aim to eat at or around tde and stay there for 8 weeks before doing a small cut just to lose the last couple of lbs. I have been building up slowly so as not to re-gain and so far I have actually lost another 2lbs.

However; I am going to stay with my parents for 10 days this weekend and, what with it being Easter AS WELL, I am really worried about not being able to count and log my calories and scared of starting to gain weight again because I can't control my intake effectively. I was wondering if anyone had any advice for me on how to handle this? It's especially tough as we always have evening meals together and I won't be able to even estimate the calorie content of dinner until dinner time, and by then I won't be able to compensate by eating less (or more!) throughout the day!

Has anyone else got situations like this and how do you suggest I handle it? I don't want to ruin the hard work I have put in to repairing my metabolism by dramatically cutting calories again to compensate, nor do I want to ruin all my hard work losing this weight by overindulging, even accidentally!

First thing you really need to grasp about this whole process is holidays, vacations, etc are not going to derail you if you don't let them.. Consider them a break.. Especially with you trying to eat more.. so eat more.. But that doesn't mean eat a bag of chips, or 2 bags of M&M or a box of peeps.. Avoid snacking on junk food between meals, and eat protein and veggies that are with your meal.. That's it..

Now Remember if you eat Ham or something like that, it contains sodium, which makes you hold water.. so the day after Easter.. and you had 2 ham sandwiches the night before.. the scale will be up.. you will retain water.. Just try to understand that your TDEE is what you eat to maintain, if you go over you gain.. but you need to really go over to get 1 lb (3500 calories or so).. so when the scale jumps 5 lbs.. its not really 5 lbs..

Enjoy life, have discipline, and patience and you will get there.

I was just home at my parents' for 4 days including for the start of Passover which has a festive meal. I went out when I got there and bought some food that I know would work in. I did have two meals that were more out of my control, but I did the best I could. I also walked. Lot (6 miles at least above normal activity). I got home last night and weighed myself this morning. I lost a pound since last Friday. I know family can be tough. Do they know you have changed your eating plan/habits. If so, hopefully they will be supportive as you make your eating choices over the 10 days.

    Happy Easter. Z

I deal with not logging by recalling what I eat when I do log. I shoot for protein first and healthy choices...HOWEVER...on vacation if there are things that I like I will eat those as well. Key get your protein in and usually binging is reduced considerably.
