Starting 5x5 tonight and while I have been lifting for a couple of years now I am not experienced in squats and deadlifts. Should I use a weight belt?

Thanks

I started the program with the sets that were set up in Stronglifts due to not lifting for several years (compression of the lower lumbar in a fall) and have not used a belt, but when the weight starts getting higher, around week 10 or so, I probably will.

I've found no need in the first 4 weeks for a belt, but I'm considering getting one for the latter end of week 5 and onwards.

I'm in week 10 and haven't felt the need for one yet. Just watch your form and don't go up even if you hit all 5 sets if you feel your form is slipping.

I have a really nice belt I used when powerlifting. I haven't touched it yet and probably won't for a good while. I'd say don't use one until you absolutely have to, and when you get one, get a good one because it'll last you a lfetime. Don't get a thin one that they sell at a sporting goods store, order a real one online.
