Do you refeed? How often?

Hi! I'm new here  .

I've been eating low carb for just under 2 weeks, eating between 25 and 40 net carbs per day with the exception of a small splurge last weekend where I hit 65. I don't know if I'm in ketosis or not (actually just ordered strips for the curiosity factor), but I haven't yet decided how much that matters to me. If nothing else, I've been making great food choices and finding it much easier to stay within my calorie goal, and the weight is coming off at a satisfactory rate, so I'm motivated to keep going down this path.

I was thinking of incorporating a carb refeed day periodically, mainly just to maintain my sanity a bit - I'm really not finding it THAT hard to stick with this way of eating but a girl's gotta have some hash browns or sushi rolls every once in awhile, you know? Plus, what I've read seems to indicate that it's a good thing to do occasionally. I'm thinking of just allowing myself more than what I'm eating but maybe still less than 100 or so. How often is too often to do that? Once every week, two weeks, month? Less often than that? I've also seen it recommended to incorporate a fast day after a refeed day. Is that really necessary? Does it have to be the very next day?

Any tips or strategies to approaching this kind of idea? I've read a LOT about this kind of thing, but so much of the information I'm finding pertains to carb cycling for serious athletes/trainers and body builders, and that is SO not me - I'm just a squishy girl who's just starting out . I want to maximize my results but at some point this stuff just gets WAY overcomplicated and unnecessary for someone at my stage of the game, and I'm trying to identify what is really relevant for me, personally. If anyone can relate to where I'm at, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts!

I don't have any tips (sorry!), but I just wanted to add that I did that in January and it spun out of control really, really quickly to the point that I was eating like usual and no longer low carb. (Didn't gain any of the weight back though, woohoo!) Anyway, every person is different. If you're bored with your current situation, then it'll be difficult to maintain as a lifestyle. Do what works for you and just test the waters with a new added favorite every week or so and see how you feel--that's how I'd go about it if I did January all over again.

    Thanks so much!

I think maybe I'll stick with what I'm doing now for awhile longer. I feel great and it's working, so if it ain't broke why fix it, right? Sometimes I get so caught up on what I think I "should" be doing that I end up ignoring if what I'm actually doing is going well.

I tested today and I am in ketosis (at least according to the strips, which I know aren't perfect but it's probably right), so I think I might experiment with adding in a small serving of berries or something like that and see what happens. That might be enough to get me through.

It is best to keep your carbs at an even level. Besides, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!
