Menopause and weight loss

First let me say that while I don't normally post (I'm shy); I do love this group - the information on it is fantastic! But I'm stuck so I'm going out on a limb and reaching out.
I'm hoping to get some clarification about how menopause impacts weight loss. I'm 50 and although I think I've come to terms that I won't be getting back my glow of youth, I'd at least like to be healthier so I can live to enjoy my retirement. I feel I'm fighting a losing battle right now - and am stuck on the thought that my hormones (or lack thereof) are winning. My motivating is flagging the more I think about it. I'm searching the net and with all the information out there I'm just confusing myself, so I'm going to the experts - you guys These days the scale (and the emotions) are not my friends. Menopause is one hell of a roller coaster ride and when you pair up a scale with it - Wowzers, it gets worse. LOL Yah last week was not a good week for me, not at all.
I'm not an expert at this - not at all - so if I'm not using the proper terms, please forgive me.
I calculated my TDEE on Scoobysworkshop. My TDEE with 1 to 3 hrs light exercise is 2076 - 20% = Goal: 1656 165C(40%), 124F(30%), 124P(30%). My TDEE with 3 to 5 hrs moderate exercise is 2341 - 20% = 1872 35%P, 45%C, 20%F. I have my MFP set for the 1656 TDEE. I do cardio (elliptical) 3 times a week and am learning strength training with dumbbells 3 times a week. I'm following the strength training workouts from 'The Body Fat Solution written by Tom Venuto'. My question is: in order to lose weight do I need to take into account how menopause is effecting my hormones and make adjustments to my TDEE to counter them? I keep reading that menopause means I need to eat less, eat less carbs, lower stress .... the information out there is overwhelming me and I'm floundering.
Another question - my PT has told me not to eat my exercise cals? On strength training days, MFP shows a low amount of cals burnt (which is ok) but on cardio days the elliptical can burn quite a few. It's not that I want to eat more, just that not eating them is not sitting well with me. Could not eating half of those elliptical cals be effecting my weight loss?
I sure would appreciate some help and suggestions. Is it even possible to lose weight during menopause? Am I stuck with this bowling pin shape for the rest of my life? (please tell me that I won't be, if I just keep working at it.......) Or is it my brain, making an excuse?
Thank you in advance.

Tagging for a more detailed response later - but the crux of the questions: Is it even possible to lose weight during menopause? Yes it is. Hormonal shenanigans just make it harder.0
