Metabolic Testing

How does this work? Is it accurate? Questioning the calibration of the machine and the certification of the operator also. One of our local grocery stores is offering this through their dietitians. The cost is a little more than I would pay out of pocket. ( I have not checked with my doc on this either).

Yes it is accurate. The dietitian in your area is likely using a Med Gem metabolic testing device which calculates your RMR based off gas exchange through your breath. Basically, you fast overnight and breath through a machine for 10 minutes while you relax as much as possible.

You don't really need to get that test done though. You can just estimate your BMR and calculated your TDEE to come up with a calorie value that will work for your goals. If the scale doesn't move in the right direction, you still have your answer. Just add or take away a small % of calories from the # you've calculated.
