Heartburn?? What's your craziest symptom?

Hi ladies,

Just thought I'd throw this out there as I find it so odd how much endo can effect us all in different ways. My symptoms have been getting progressively worse as I am, as yet, untreated. The fainting fit I had last time is what it took for people to take me seriously!

However, the last few TOMs and OVs I have been having ridiculously painful heartburn, like a climbing spike through the heart. It comes and goes with all the other symptoms I experience so I'm thinking it must be related in some way, although I have no idea how! Must remember to ask the consultant that one! Anybody else get this?

I also wondered what other weird effects it can have. My mum and one of my best friends have endo too and I spoke to them about this.

My mum didn't get a lot of unusual ones but did say that she found her allergies and asthma were worse when she was suffering. She thought it may be from just being rundown making her more sensitive to things.

My friend had a weird one (and actually passed this with her specialist) she gets NOSEBLEEDS! Something to do with her hormones and pain levels affecting her BP apparently.

Anyone want to share some wonderful endo symptoms here? Figured it might help us all to read and know we aren't crazy and aren't alone. I can read through it the next time I'm going through my sixth Gaviscon tablet and peppermint tea because of my old woman-like heartburn - and to think I used to laugh at my Gran always having Rennies in her handbag!

My doctor reminds me that a lot of the pain from endo is caused by inflammation. Heartburn is a form of inflammation - I wouldn't be surprised. Another thought - are you taking lots of pain medications at the same time? Some pain meds cause upset stomach and heartburn, maybe that's what's causing it?

it might not be related to the endo, but does anyone get crazy food cravings??

I swear I get pregnancy like cravings- lately I've been craving everything sweet & savoury mixed together like pineapple chicken, pears & cheese, fruity salads etc... might just be a change in my taste buds or something.

Or it could be hormones? I don't get TOM as I have the mirena and they stopped 2 years ago.

Could well be. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have to moniter what meds I'm on while the heartburn is around but I think it happens when I haven't taken anything as well as when I have. I really struggle to remember what I have and haven't done when I'm in pain. Honestly, I sound like such a scatterbrain, but I'm not that bad on a 'normal' day!

Yes, funny you should say that, I do sometimes. In my case it's usually for anything tangy; like the most turn-your-face-inside-out lemon or grapefruit juice I can find, and cheese and/or milk. I do like those things anyway, but sometimes it's a real "I HAVE to have it right now" scenario.

My craziest symptom by far was my bleeding belly button! It would happy every month during my oh so lovely TOM and it was gross and painful. I had a lapro surgery a few years back and they cleared it up but never found the actual reason for the bleeding. They did however remove a cyst, fixed a hernia I didn't know I had and removed some "dead" tissue from around that area as well. I have other symptoms now but so glad I don't have to deal with that anymore (let's hope! lol)!!

That is odd! I'll have to remember that one to tell my friend with the nosebleeds! Weird though, when I had my belly button pierced it always used to get infected and painful around THAT time. I put it down to the amount of bloating pushing and aggravating it from the inside out. I don't know why I try to rationalise all the odd things my body does!

If it helps I know my mum swore her symptoms got better for about a year after her lap.

It's amazing how much they found during your lap, I'm glad to hear they could at least sort some of it for you.
