Interesting until you get to the "similar to the type performed by Sigma Human Performance" and I decided he was being controversial to try to sell his services.

Personally, I think you need both to really track your performance and guide your workouts. Just one or the other is missing something.

His point is basically that everyone using power is wrong, a point you'd have a really hard time selling in competitive circles where riders who were plateaued using heart rate found incredible new gains with the level of precision that power meters give them. You know, measures that are not falsely affected by heat, dehydration, nervousness, and fatigue.

Agreed. I think that they work in concert to give a total picture of what is going on. Now if I could just afford a crank based power meter I'd be happy.

When I realized that one SRM costs as much as 3 PowerTaps, I ended up going with the PowerTaps....

An article that is skewed to sell a product...imagine that.

Most of his points are easily countered and as Cyclink said, this article would get ripped apart in the professional ranks.

A few months ago, Quarq PMs were on sale with new models arriving. They got snatched up pretty quick. I resisted the urge to buy one but have used them on multiple occasions. The data is enough to make any cycling geek squeel in excitement.

I'm a total data geek and, if my recent results are anything to go by, the precision that training with power allows has done a lot for me that previously training with heart rate alone did not..
