Reiki

I just registered for an introductory course at my local University to learn "Reiki for the Mind, Body, and Spirit!"
I'm very excited to learn more about energy healing so that I may incorporate it into my life as well as the life of others.

I don't think that I will be receiving an attunement at the end of the course, but my yoga teacher assures that I will be ready for an attunement afterwards. Does anyone have experience with Reiki or other types of healing techniques that can give me a better understanding of the process? I would like to come to class fully open to all the possibilities the experience might bring.

I would love to hear your thoughts, comments, and any recommendations you might have - Thank you!

What does the course description say? Usually classes like that have an attunement as part of them. When I teach a class, I go over the material and then give the attunement and after everyone in the class is attuned I have them practice on each other. Feel free to message me if you'd like to talk about Reiki more. :)

Is it Reiki the new age "healing" practice or is it Reiki the pagan spirituality of indigenous Asian magic?

The Reiki of Asian religious practice (Johrei) is some pretty dark stuff, including rituals to steal souls, bind souls, offer souls to demons and harm others through magic. The healing is something done only though a blood sacrifice. There are books by anthropologists about this spiritual practice that is animist, out of the philippines and japan. In Japan, Shinto has Reiki practice in it. In the Philippines , Reiki / Johrei is a very old religion practiced by the third world indigenous of Asia's south and mid pacific.

As for the new age "healing" practice that massage therapists do that begain in the 19th C., there is yet to be any medical or scientific evidence that it works.

"Reiki originated in Japan in the late 1800s and was invented by a man named Mikao Usui. He was a well-educated man, having traveled to both Europe and China to study. Usui was a successful businessman and was interested in arts, medicine, Buddhism, and was a member of the Rei Jyutu Ka, a metaphysical group dedicated to developing psychic abilities."

I think that the faith healing of this type of Reiki is fairly new to the USA and as far as I understand it, a Japanese "deliverance" doctor popularized it there. I do know that prayers for the intention of a healing have been documented by some European medical journals as beneficial. Those studies were of Christian religious monks and nuns that prayed, long distance, for the healing of hospital patients to much success, for free. I think Free is the key idea.

I'm a Reiki Master and have had the opportunity to study with some amazing teachers. If it's a course to discuss energy work and not level 1 Reiki, there may not be an attunement. I don't know what they teach these days... I was attuned for Reiki 1 over 15 years ago. Reiki is extremely unique and honestly was my biggest life changing experience ever. I can't even express the positive changes that occurred when I started to practice Reiki.

If you ever want to discuss further feel free to PM me.

Reiki isn't faith healing. It's a type of energy work like Chi Gong or Polarity therapy. As a Reiki master, I've never heard of the first type of Reiki you talked about (which by no means is to say that it isn't real) But any type of Reiki practiced as healing cannot harm, only help.
